Kome no Kuni
The Land of Rice
Northwest of Sakuragawa lies Kome no Kuni, the fertile land that sustains the empire. Crisscrossed by rivers and embraced by misty mountains, its rice fields stretch like shimmering emerald seas, reflecting the heavens above. Farmers labor with devotion, for rice is not only food but a sacred gift — a blessing of life from the gods themselves.
Villages dot the landscape, their thatched-roof farmhouses filled with laughter, song, and the fragrance of fresh harvest. Festivals bring the people together in joyous dance, honoring both the bounty of the earth and the spirits that dwell within it. For here, the boundary between mortal and spirit blurs: mischievous Tanuki roam freely among the villagers, while Tsukumogami, household tools and objects given life by centuries of use, often join festivals as honored guests.
Kome no Kuni is Yamato’s breadbasket, but also a land of stories and superstition. Every stalk of rice whispers of the gods’ touch, and every shadow in the fields may hide a trickster’s grin.
