Reikonzan
The Mountain of Spirits
The Reikonzan Range rises like a divine wall in Yamato’s northwest, crowned by Mount Akumakase, a vast, snow-capped volcano whose slumbering fire contrasts with the eternal mists that shroud its slopes. The mountains are dotted with hidden shrines to the earth spirits, icy caves filled with offerings, and sacred cliffs where the wind itself sings through natural stone arches. To the uninitiated, Reikonzan is a place of peril — its freezing winds and treacherous paths guarded fiercely by the Tengu. Yet at its heart lies Tengu’s Ascent, the great temple upon Mount Tenra. Carved from cedar and stone, adorned with lacquered carvings of battles and divine myths, the Ascent is both fortress and monastery. Here the Tengu preserve their knowledge of the old martial ways, watching from their mist-veiled halls over the mortal realm. Legends claim that even the gods themselves once sought the counsel of the mountain spirits, and the Tengu, as their chosen keepers, remain eternal stewards of Reikonzan’s mysteries.
