Merchants from Grift were the first to taste the Dying Lands’ lifeblood; but like scavengers to the slaughter, any nobility with even a fraction of power vied immediately for dominance over this new resource.
There are many accounts of who shot first; none matter. All engage in mindless killing. Silver has become secondary to SLAGGVARA in all its forms: oily “earth blood”, vaporous “ghost breath”, and crystalline “stone heart”. What might have elevated culture and birthed enlightenment in the gloomy twilight of time instead fuels machinations of war and mass murder.
All are drawn to it, both the dead and the living. Its pull draws both cold metal and forlorn spirits into conflict. The world heaves and convulses as its soul is plundered...
It turns out that injecting SLAGG is highly addictive. Some grunts have taken to using it as an intoxicant to relieve shellshock. Many suffer from withdrawals.
