Naxxramas: Dreadnought of the Scourge

@Naxxramas stands as the absolute pinnacle of @Scourge aerial military engineering. A colossal, floating necropolis constructed of unyielding stone and reinforced by dark necromantic runes, it functions as a mobile fortress, a mass-production factory for the undead, and the supreme seat of power for the Archlich @Kel'Thuzad, the Lich King’s right hand and commander of the Cult of the Damned.

The architectural design of @Naxxramas is heavily derived from the ancient, subterranean ziggurats of the Nerubian spider-kingdom of Azjol-Nerub. Following the War of the Spider, the Lich King seized the architectural secrets of the defeated nerubians, adapting their underground citadels into terrifying, airborne fortresses capable of bypassing mortal land defenses entirely and raining down the plague of un-death directly from the skies.

The First Invasion: The Skies of Stratholme

@Naxxramas first entered modern historical records during the closing chapters of the classic era, hovering ominously over the Plaguelands of Lordaeron. Positioned directly above the ruins of Stratholme, @Kel'Thuzad utilized the floating fortress as the vanguard command center for a massive, global assault against Azeroth's capital cities.

A desperate coalition of mortal champions, operating under the banner of the original Argent Dawn, launched a daring infiltration into the necropolis. They fought their way through its horrific wings and successfully banished @Kel'Thuzad, shattering the @Scourge's immediate momentum in the @Eastern Kingdoms. However, because the Archlich’s phylactery was secretly recovered by a traitor within the Light's ranks, his soul survived, allowing him to slowly reconstitute his physical form.

The Four Terrifying Quarters

@Naxxramas is divided into four distinct, highly specialized quadrants that isolate the various horrors of the Scourge war machine, all converging upon a central upper chamber:

  • The Construct Quarter: The industrial slaughterhouse where Thaddius—a massive flesh titan built from the stitched-together bodies of innocent women and children—is powered by volatile electric currents alongside twin flesh giants, Feugen and Stallag.

  • The Arachnid Quarter: Overseen by Grand Widow Faerlina and Anub'Rekhan, a resurrected Nerubian crypt lord, this wing breeds venomous swarms and mutates giant spiders to serve as the Scourge’s vanguard.

  • The Plague Quarter: The bio-weapons laboratory where Heigan the Unclean and Noth the Plaguebringer actively manufacture, refine, and test the highly virulent blights meant to systematically wipe out all life on Azeroth.

  • The Military Quarter: The elite training grounds for the Lich King’s finest martial commanders. It is anchored by the Four Horsemen—Sir Zeliek, Thane Korth'azz, Lady Blaumeux, and their new leader, the fallen paladin Baron Rivendare—who represent the peak of unholy @Death Knight power.

The Sapphiron Guardian and the Upper Citadel

Past the four lower quarters lies the chilling upper sanctum of @Naxxramas. The threshold is guarded by Sapphiron, an ancient blue dragon who was brutally slain by @Arthas Menethil during his journey to the Frozen Throne and resurrected as a massive, frost-breathing skeletal Wyrm.

Beyond Sapphiron sits the Frostwyrm Lair, a twilight-draped throne room where @Kel'Thuzad resides. From here, the Archlich maintains a constant telepathic link to the Lich King, coordinating the global strategies of the @Undead from his plush, icy sanctum.

The Vanguard Over the Dragonblight

Following the awakening of @Arthas Menethil at the start of the current northern campaign, @Naxxramas underwent a massive geopolitical relocation. Ripped away from the skies of the @Eastern Kingdoms, the floating metropolis traveled across the Great Sea to serve as the primary vanguard of the @Scourge invasion of @Northrend.

The necropolis now hovers permanently over the eastern wastes of the Dragonblight, positioned directly above the Wintergarde Keep human settlement. From this vantage point, @Kel'Thuzad's forces systematically lay siege to the Alliance defenses and dig up the remains of ancient dragons to swell the ranks of the @Undead aviation corps.

As the Alliance and Horde forge deeper into the frozen continent, @Naxxramas stands as the first mandatory barrier they must conquer—a hovering monument of bone and iron whose destruction is absolutely vital before any final assault can be made upon the gates of Icecrown Citadel.
