The Kingdom of Quel'Thalas

The @Kingdom of Quel'Thalas was a magnificent, reclusive high elven magocracy nestled within the northernmost reaches of the @Eastern Kingdoms. Its history began roughly seven thousand years ago when a faction of Highborne @Night Elfs, led by Dath'Remar Sunstrider, was exiled from @Kalimdor for refusing to abandon their practice of arcane magic. Crossing the Great Sea, the exiles settled in a verdant, ley-rich northern forest, naming their new sovereign empire Quel'Thalas, or "Home of the High Elves."

To sustain his people’s deep magical dependency, Dath'Remar poured a stolen vial of the original Well of Eternity’s waters into a sacred lake, creating the Sunwell. This font of infinite cosmic power bathed the land in perpetual spring and radiated a constant stream of arcane energy to every high elf across the kingdom. Around it, they constructed Silvermoon City, a breathtaking metropolis of soaring white stone, spires wrapped in solid gold, and crimson canopies. To shield their grand civilization from the outside world, the elven magi erected the Ban'dinoriel (the Gatekeeper), a massive, invisible magical shield powered by runestones that masked their arcane signatures from wandering demons.

The Troll Wars and the Alliance of Lordaeron

The primary existential threat to the early kingdom came from the Amani Empire, a savage and massive nation of forest @Trolls who had held a blood claim to the elven lands for millennia. As the Amani mobilized an all-consuming war of attrition that threatened to breach the outer defenses of Silvermoon, King Anasterian Sunstrider recognized that his people could not survive alone.

In a historic diplomatic move, Anasterian forged a military pact with Thoradin, the @Human king of Arathor. In exchange for the @Human army's physical might, the high elves agreed to teach one hundred humans the arts of arcane sorcery. The combined force of elven strategy and raw @Human magical artillery utterly devastated the Amani frontlines, breaking the power of the forest trolls forever.

Generations later, when the orcish Horde invaded during the Second War, Anasterian begrudgingly honored the ancient blood oath made to Thoradin’s lineage by joining the Alliance of Lordaeron. Elven rangers and sorcerers proved vital in turning back the Horde, but following the war's conclusion, Anasterian bitterly blamed @Human leadership for the burning of Quel'Thalas’s border forests and officially seceded from the Alliance, retreating back into strict isolationism.

The Scourge Invasion and the Fall of Silvermoon

The absolute zenith of elven tragedy occurred during the Third War. The fallen human prince @Arthas Menethil, now a @Death Knight of the @Scourge, marched an infinite army of the @Undead toward Quel'Thalas. The @Scourge required the absolute purity of the Sunwell to resurrect the corrupted archmage @Kel'Thuzad as an immortal Lich.

Despite the fierce, brilliant tactical resistance led by Ranger-General @Sylvanas Windrunner, the kingdom was betrayed from within by a disgruntled magus named Dar'Khan Drathir, who revealed the secrets of the Ban'dinoriel to the enemy. The @Scourge obliterated the elven defenses. @Arthas Menethil executed @Sylvanas Windrunner, tearing her soul from her body to create the first banshee, and marched directly into the Sunwell. The dark ritual to resurrect @Kel'Thuzad permanently corrupted and fouled the font of power. With ninety percent of their population slaughtered and their homeland split in two by a corrupted scar of dead earth, the high elven civilization was shattered in a single week.

The Rise of the Blood Elves and Rebirth

In the wake of the apocalypse, Prince @Kael'thas Sunstrider returned from Dalaran to rally the traumatized survivors. In honor of their fallen kin, he decreed that they would discard their old identity and christen themselves the Sin'dorei, or @Blood Elfs. With the Sunwell severely corrupted, it began emitting a toxic, necrotic radiation that threatened to kill the remaining elves. @Kael'thas Sunstrider was forced to lead a desperate strike team to permanently destroy the font of their power.

While this saved their lives, it triggered a horrific, agonizing withdrawal sickness due to their severed magical addiction. @Kael'thas Sunstrider traveled to @Outland to join the @Illidari in search of a cure, leaving Grand Magus Rommath and Regent Lord @Lor'themar Theron to govern and rebuild Silvermoon. Rommath returned with teachings from @Illidan Stormrage, instructing the @Blood Elfs to siphoning fel magic from demonic sources to sate their hunger.

The Northrend Campaign and the Sunreavers

The @Kingdom of Quel'Thalas officially joined @Thrall's Horde to secure survival against the remaining @Scourge and to deliver final justice to @Arthas Menethil. Operating under the banner of the Horde, the @Blood Elf military vanguard—the Sunseekers and the Magisters—deployed heavy arcane constructs and blood-knights to the frontlines of @Northrend.

Concurrently, Archmage Aethas Sunreaver successfully petitioned the @Kirin Tor to readmit the magi of the @Kingdom of Quel'Thalas into Dalaran, establishing the Sunreavers as a powerful faction within the floating city. This political victory gave the kingdom a massive forward platform in the Crystalsong Forest. From the Sunreaver Enclave, the @Blood Elfs operated as elite shock troopers, working alongside the Horde and the @Argent Crusade's to systematically dismantle the @Scourge's citadels, fiercely determined to avenge the near-extinction of their ancient, golden kingdom.
