Adlanthea’s industrial age has transformed how people move, communicate, work, and wage war.
Railways connect the continent’s major cities, carrying passengers, freight, soldiers, and refined aether across enormous distances. The busiest routes are maintained by powerful industrial interests, while frontier lines are often unreliable, dangerous, or vulnerable to monsters and sabotage.
Airships dominate long-distance travel through the skies. Passenger liners, military vessels, merchant ships, private craft, couriers, and smugglers all compete for docking space above the great cities. Veyari pilots and members of the Free Skies are especially renowned for navigating dangerous routes.
Within cities, steam carriages, rune-driven trams, mechanical lifts, and elevated railways move enormous populations through crowded streets.
Firearms are common enough to have changed warfare, though swords, bows, magic, and older weapons remain widespread. Gunslingers have elevated firearm use into a specialized martial discipline, while machinists continually develop new weapons and mechanical devices.
Clockwork technology ranges from simple household mechanisms to complex industrial machines and semi-autonomous constructs. Mechanical limbs and arcane prosthetics are increasingly sophisticated, particularly among the Clockbound.
Aether communication systems allow messages to travel farther and faster than traditional couriers, though such networks remain expensive and concentrated around major cities.
Technology in Adlanthea is powerful, but it is not modern in the conventional sense. There are no automobiles, computers, or electronic conveniences. Everything is built from brass, iron, glass, steam, clockwork, and magic.
Progress has made the continent smaller.
It has also made its dangers much easier to reach.
