BugAnne's Father (frequently referred to as the King of the Bug People) is a minor insectoid monarch introduced in the Rick and Morty Season 8 finale, "Hot Rick". Voiced by legendary British actor John Rhys-Davies, he rules over an unnamed bug-like alien civilization alongside his wife. He serves as a structural obstacle to Rick Sanchez’s attempts at standard socializing; when BugAnne brings Rick to her home planet to attend a grand coliseum tournament hosted by her royal parents, Rick is forced to navigate the monarch's strict, zero-tolerance cultural laws. Upon discovering that BugAnne's ex-boyfriend, Jackpoo, has inadvertently violated their planet's sacred mating rituals, the King ruthlessly sentences him to trial by combat in the arena, forcing Rick into the duel. His rigid, traditionalist alien authority directly triggers the episode's arena conflict, which abruptly ends when a bored Rick portals away, completely disrespecting the King's royal traditions.
