  1. Sorta kinda Rick and Morty!!!
  2. Lore

Premise, run downs, key lore, and more…!

Core Premise

The show follows Rick Sanchez, a genius but unstable scientist, and his grandson Morty Smith as they travel across infinite realities. The universe operates on true multiverse theory—every possibility exists somewhere.

Season 1–2: Chaos & the Multiverse

Rick introduces Morty to interdimensional travel, exposing him to aliens, alternate timelines, and moral ambiguity. Early adventures feel episodic, but key lore appears:

  • Infinite universes exist, but some are grouped into the Central Finite Curve—a section where Rick is the smartest being.

  • Rick frequently abandons realities; after accidentally Cronenberging Earth, Rick and Morty move to a near-identical dimension.

  • The Citadel of Ricks is revealed—a society of Ricks and Mortys from across the multiverse.

  • Evil Morty is introduced, hinting at a larger plot.

Season 3: Rick’s Past & Control

Rick escapes prison and dismantles the Galactic Federation. He claims his tragic backstory (his wife and daughter killed) was fabricated, casting doubt on his motives.

The Citadel returns: Evil Morty manipulates events to become its President, exposing how Ricks exploit Mortys as emotional shields. Themes of control, nihilism, and systemic corruption deepen.

Season 4–5: Cracks in Rick’s Identity

Adventures continue, but lore expands:

  • Rick’s emotional detachment weakens; he shows dependency on Morty and family.

  • Beth confronts her identity—whether she’s a clone or the “real” daughter remains ambiguous.

  • Evil Morty’s plan unfolds: he discovers the truth of the Central Finite Curve.

Major Reveal (Season 5 Finale):

  • Rick’s real backstory is confirmed: another Rick (often called “Rick Prime”) killed his family.

  • Rick spent years hunting him, creating portal tech in the process.

  • The Central Finite Curve was engineered by Ricks to isolate universes where they dominate intellectually.

Evil Morty destroys the Curve’s barrier and escapes beyond it—into unknown multiverse space where Ricks are not guaranteed to be the smartest.

Season 6: Consequences & Rick Prime

Portal travel resets, sending everyone back to their original universes:

  • Rick returns to his original dimension and resumes hunting Rick Prime.

  • Morty confronts his original family, including a more hardened version of himself.

  • The Citadel is gone, destabilizing interdimensional order.

Rick becomes more focused and less godlike—his limitations and obsession with revenge become central.

Season 7: Resolution of the Hunt

Rick finally confronts and kills Rick Prime after a long pursuit. This is a major turning point:

  • Rick achieves his life’s goal—but feels empty afterward.

  • His character shifts from revenge-driven to existentially lost.

  • Morty becomes more assertive and independent, no longer just a sidekick.

The show leans more into character growth while still maintaining episodic chaos.

Season 8: Beyond the Curve

With Rick Prime gone and the Central Finite Curve broken:

  • The multiverse is now truly unpredictable—Rick is no longer guaranteed superiority.

  • New threats and unknown intelligences emerge from outside the Curve.

  • Rick’s role shifts: less untouchable god, more flawed explorer navigating a bigger, more dangerous infinity.

Morty continues evolving, increasingly challenging Rick’s worldview and ethics.

Key Lore Concepts

1. Infinite Multiverse
Everything that can happen does happen—but not all universes are equal.

2. Central Finite Curve
A curated subset of universes where Ricks remain dominant. Its destruction expands the stakes dramatically.

3. The Citadel of Ricks
A multiversal government showing that even Ricks form flawed systems of control.

4. Rick Prime
The original antagonist and catalyst for Rick’s trauma and scientific journey.

5. Existential Themes
Despite infinite realities, characters struggle with meaning, identity, and connection.

Overall Arc

The series evolves from chaotic sci-fi comedy into a story about:

  • A man trying to outsmart infinity and failing emotionally

  • A grandson growing into independence

  • The collapse of systems designed to control chaos

By Season 8, the lore shifts from “Rick is the smartest being in existence” to “Rick is just one player in a much larger, unknowable multiverse.”
