The Calamity changed humanity as surely as it changed the world. Many humans exposed to the new magical environment eventually developed traits resembling the fantasy peoples once found only in myth and fiction. These transformations are now a permanent part of the world's population.
The Changed are not separate species from another world. They are humans who have been altered by magic. Most retain their memories, personalities, and connections to their former lives.
Humans remain the baseline. They were the dominant species before the Calamity, and their bodies and minds retain the versatility that made them so adaptable. The transformations that created the Changed generally grant specialized abilities in exchange for some of that versatility.
Known forms of the Changed include Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Orcs, Goliaths, Aasimar, Tieflings, Tabaxi, Lupin, Corvus, Saurians, Harebun, Minotaurs, and Racuni.
Each form possesses its own distinctive physical traits, talents, and magical abilities. Some Changed people embrace their new nature, while others struggle with the fact that their bodies have become something they once would have considered impossible.
The Changed are now a normal part of society. They are not visitors from another world, nor are they temporary mutations waiting to be cured. Whatever humanity was before the Calamity, it has become something broader now.
The old definition of "human" is no longer enough to describe humanity.
