Fiends: (Demons and Devils)

📖 The Infernal Codex: Fiends of Infernus.

A study of the entities from the Lower Planes that plague our city, cataloged by the Inquisitors of House Ashcroft.

Despair Demon

  • Classification: Spirit of Misery / Emotional Parasite

  • Habitat: The slums of the 4th Ring, sites of great tragedy, and mass graves.

  • Role & Behavior: The Despair Demon is an opportunistic feeder that thrives in the hopelessness of the industrial sprawl. They do not typically hunt healthy prey; instead, they latch onto those already broken by grief or poverty, amplifying their sorrow until the victim simply loses the will to live. In the smoke-choked alleys of the Stench Streets, they are often mistaken for mourning widows until one notices the black tears are permanent stains on their grey skin.

  • Visual Identification: A gaunt human woman in a tattered black mourning dress. Her shapely form is twisted by unseen suffering, and faint black tears streak her face.

Legion Devil

  • Classification: Infernal Infantry / Soldier of the Hells

  • Habitat: Summoned to guard high-value cult sites or serving as bodyguards for powerful warlocks.

  • Role & Behavior: Unlike the chaotic fervor of demons, the Legion Devil is a creature of terrifying discipline. They are the foot soldiers of the infernal armies, known for their unwavering loyalty and military precision. In combat, they fight in formation, using shields and spears with a coordination that rivals the City Guard. They do not feel fear, and they do not break rank.

  • Visual Identification: A gaunt, hairless humanoid with blood-red skin stretched tight over its skull. It has piercing yellow eyes, large upward-curling horns, and is always clad in ornate, menacing plate armor.

Agony Demon

  • Classification: Manifestation of Torment

  • Habitat: Torture chambers, illegal fighting pits, and the lairs of the Mechanicus Occultus.

  • Role & Behavior: Born from the deepest pits of suffering, these fiends are living conduits of pain. They are attracted to the screams of the living. Cultists often summon them not as guardians, but as executioners. The Agony Demon does not kill quickly; it feeds on the duration and intensity of the victim's suffering. Its own existence is a constant state of torture, which it seeks to inflict upon others.

  • Visual Identification: A male figure whose skin appears seared away by third-degree burns. Barbed wire wraps tightly around its head, limbs, and torso, digging into the raw flesh. The wire blinds its eyes, leaving only a mouth frozen in a perpetual scream.

Lust Demon

  • Classification: Ambush Predator / Deceiver

  • Habitat: The brothels of Carnival Row and the private parties of the 3rd Ring.

  • Role & Behavior: A creature that preys on the vices of mortals. The Lust Demon is a solitary hunter that uses the city’s decadence as camouflage. It lures isolated victims with promises of intimacy and pleasure. Once the victim is vulnerable, the demon drops its guise to feed. It is a terrifying biological mimic, using the guise of beauty to hide a horrific internal structure.

  • Visual Identification: At first glance, a stunningly beautiful woman. However, true sight reveals her form is a writhing mass of human entrails, with intestines slithering from her scalp like hair.

Pact Devil

  • Classification: Infernal Negotiator / Soul Broker

  • Habitat: Crossroads, gambling dens, and sometimes disguised within the courts of the Platinum Ring.

  • Role & Behavior: The Pact Devil is a bureaucrat of the Hells. They do not seek to kill; they seek to collect. Masters of charm and manipulation, they target the desperate—a merchant losing his business, a noble losing his status—and offer a solution. They grant wealth, power, or fame, but the cost is always the signatory's soul. They are bound by the laws of their contracts, making them one of the few fiends one can technically "trust" to keep their word, however twisted the outcome.

  • Visual Identification: A humanoid with light red skin, small horns, a slender tail, and cat-like yellow eyes. They usually dress in the finest silks and velvets, blending in with the upper class.

Gluttony Demon

  • Classification: Cursed Soul / Devourer

  • Habitat: Food storage warehouses, butcheries, or roaming the Scrapyard consuming refuse.

  • Role & Behavior: These are often the twisted souls of mortals who died consumed by greed, now bound to a form that can never be sated. They are engines of consumption. A Gluttony Demon will eat anything—food, trash, metal, or flesh. They are dangerous not because of their skill, but because of their relentlessness. They will not stop eating until they are destroyed.

  • Visual Identification: A massive, obese humanoid standing 8 feet tall. Its body is covered in scars and blisters, and its head is dominated by a disproportionately large mouth filled with serrated teeth.

Wrath Demon

  • Classification: Greater Fiend / Engine of Destruction

  • Habitat: The center of summoned battlefields or leading demonic incursions from Infernus

  • Role & Behavior: The Wrath Demon is a living siege weapon. It exists for one purpose: total annihilation. It does not employ strategy or stealth; it utilizes overwhelming brute force. Its presence alone radiates a palpable aura of rage that can cause lesser beings to flee in terror. When a Wrath Demon appears, it is not an assassination; it is a war.

  • Visual Identification: A hulking, 12-foot-tall titan of muscle and hate. Its crimson skin is studded with jagged obsidian spikes. It wears crude armor made of bone and flesh, and its veins pulse with a molten, fiery glow.

  • Lethargy-Demon

    • Classification: Spirit of Sloth / Aura of Exhaustion

    • Habitat: Opium dens, the bedchambers of the idle rich, and the corners of offices where the "will to act" has withered away.

    • Role & Behavior: A silent, spectral humanoid that hovers above the ground, propelled by a thick, unnatural fog. The Lethargy-Demon radiates a magical weight that saps the energy from everyone nearby. It doesn't strike with blades; it waits for its victims to succumb to a deep, unending stupor. Once the victim is too tired to move, the demon feeds on the heat of their stagnant spirit.

    • Visual Identification: A gaunt, spectral humanoid with eyes crudely wired shut. Its body is composed mostly of shifting fog held together by a tattered, decaying nightgown. Only the head and spindly lower arms maintain a physical shape.

    Greed-Demon

    • Classification: Grotesque of Avarice / Cursed Miser

    • Habitat: The Grand Bazaar, the high-security vaults of Sterling-Side, and the counting houses of the 2nd Ring.

    • Role & Behavior: Born from the insatiable lust for wealth, these fiends are the living embodiment of "too much." They are driven by an unceasing hunger to consume gold and gems, which they then manifest as a toxic, golden saliva. They are known to spread a "greed-curse," driving those around them into a violent frenzy over coins and trinkets.

    • Visual Identification: A hunched, goblin-like figure with grey skin. Ornate gold jewelry is not worn, but fused directly into its flesh. Its jaw is unhinged and impossibly wide, filled with razor-sharp gold teeth that grind together with a metallic screech.

    Hysteria-Demon

    • Classification: Manifestation of Panic / Chaotic Harlequin

    • Habitat: The theaters of Carnival Row, crowded market squares, and sites of civil unrest.

    • Role & Behavior: This lanky fiend thrives on the loss of emotional control. It moves with a terrifying, jerky grace made possible by extra joints in its limbs. It doesn't hunt for food so much as it hunts for a "reaction." The manic, high-pitched laughter vibrating from its chest is infectious, often driving witnesses into a state of uncontrollable, sobbing panic or mindless laughter.

    • Visual Identification: A gaunt figure wearing tattered jester's motley. Its head is a featureless, egg-like orb of skin, save for a wide, stretched mouth frozen in a perpetual, horrific grin.

    Plague-Demon

    • Classification: Bio-Hazard / Suicide Devourer

    • Habitat: Sewer convergence points, hospital overflow wards, and the toxic waste piles of the 5th Ring.

    • Role & Behavior: A biological engine of rot. These demons are incredibly unstable, their skin stretched thin over pressurized green gas and liquefying organs. In battle, they act as shock troops, dragging themselves toward the back lines of their enemies. Their primary tactic is a "suicide rush," where they allow their pressurized internal gases to detonate, showering an area in corrosive, plague-ridden filth.

    • Visual Identification: A grotesquely obese, translucent-skinned humanoid. You can see the putrid organs and glowing green gas churning inside its belly. Its face is locked in a silent, wide-mouthed scream of agony.
