The City of Sol Invictus

⚙️ Sol Invictus: The Iron Citadel of Humanity

Sol Invictus stands as the ultimate achievement and final refuge of humanity, a colossal, multi-ringed megalopolis built upon the ruins of the Cataclysm. It is an industrial fortress ruled by the Lightblood dynasty and powered by Aether-Tech, but tragically defined by social inequity and zealous control. The city’s structure mirrors its rigid social hierarchy, separating the elite from the masses in five distinct zones enclosed by a colossal barrier.

The 5th Ring: The Barrier and the Boneyard

Encompassing the entire city is The Titan Wall, a colossal fortification of reinforced steel and stone that stands as the only barrier between humanity and the horrors of the Ashen Expanse.

Trapped between this outer wall and the 4th Ring lies The 5th Ring (The Scrapyard). This unchecked expanse serves as the city’s dumping ground, a shifting labyrinth of toxic slag, mountain-high piles of refuse, and broken machinery. It is a containment zone managed by the terrifying Iron-Eaters—massive, spider-like constructs that prowl the debris, recycling metal and crushing anything in their path. The only human inhabitants are the terminally ill, the exiled, and the Mechanicus Occultus cult, who scavenge aether-cores for their radical, self-mutilating body modifications

The 4th Ring: The Outer Edge of Existence

The most expansive inhabited zone is the 4th Ring, a vast sector of poverty, pollution, and relentless labor. It is here that the majority of the city's underclass resides.

  • The SmokeStacks: This is the industrial engine of Sol Invictus. Dominated by massive factories and generators, the air is thick with perpetual smog and the clamor of heavy machinery. It is the primary dwelling for the working poor. The renowned Iron Shard Compact (The Hunter's Guild) operates from here, maintaining a necessary presence to hunt urban beasts and recruit tough individuals for their missions into the Ashen Expanse.

  • The Stench Streets: The residential slum for the working class, impoverished human citizens, and, crucially, the majority of the city's oppressed non-human population. Half-Elves, Satyrs, and Fairies are largely confined to this zone, treated as second-class citizens and facing limited employment options outside of dangerous factory work or crime. The renowned Iron Shard Compact (The Hunter's Guild) operates from here, maintaining a necessary presence to hunt urban beasts and recruit tough individuals for their missions into the Ashen Expanse.

The 3rd Ring: Commerce and Indulgence

Transitioning inward, the 3rd Ring offers an uneasy blend of wealth and vice, serving as the residential area for Sol Invictus's wealthier, non-noble citizens.

  • The Grand Bazaar: The economic heart of the city, a vibrant marketplace where legal commerce thrives. This district is controlled by The Gilded Hand, a powerful merchant faction led by the head of Noble House Sterling, who dictate all major trade and sales within the city walls. They maintain a tense, transactional alliance with the criminal underworld.

  • Carnival Row: The entertainment and vice district. While officially regulated, it is the primary focus of black-market operations and illicit entertainment. The Shadowcoil Syndicate maintains a heavy presence here, using the wealth and transactions of the Row to launder profits from their city-wide criminal enterprise.

The 2nd Ring: The Platinum Ring

The 2nd Ring is a sprawling, manicured testament to inherited wealth and power. It is the exclusive domain of Sol Invictus’s ruling oligarchy.

  • The Platinum Ring: Home to the massive, self-contained compounds of the Six Noble Houses (Sterling, Thorne, Veridian, Ashcroft, Blackwood, and Vane). Each House controls a vital municipal function, from the economy to the military, making this ring the political command center of the City-State. The security here is absolute, and the social stratification is complete, with the outer rings existing in stark and deliberate contrast to the luxury within.

The Core: The Seat of Divinity and Authority

At the very center of the City-State is the heavily fortified royal compound.

  • The Core: The seat of power for the Lightblood Royal Family, the descendants of the legendary Lucius Lightblood. This area contains the primary offices for the city's supreme authorities.
