The Serpent Tongue

Operating from the shadows of Blackrat Alley, the Serpent Tongue is Drakenstone’s most feared and elusive network of spies, informants, and hired blades. Led by Isolde, known across the city’s underworld as the Shade Widow, they deal in secrets — information is their weapon, and silence their shield.

From her base known as Widow's Window, Isolde directs operations with cold precision, ensuring that no rumor, bargain, or betrayal escapes her notice. The Serpent Tongue has no loyalty to council or creed, serving whoever pays best — or whoever serves their interests.

Their mark is subtle but unmistakable: when events turn too smoothly or rivals fall too neatly, those who know the signs whisper of the Serpent Tongue. In Drakenstone, power moves in shadows — and the Shade Widow’s hand is never far behind.

Beliefs

  • Secrets are Supreme – To the Serpent Tongue, swords can be broken and gold can be stolen, but a carefully guarded secret can topple a kingdom. Everyone has a price, and everyone has a hidden shame.

  • Absolute Neutrality – They hold no allegiance to any king, god, or moral compass. They serve the contract and their own survival above all else.

Purpose

  • Information Brokerage – The network excels in buying, selling, and extorting using the city’s deepest secrets. If someone wants to know the High Order's next move, they pay the Serpent Tongue.

  • Silent Intervention – When information isn't enough, they provide untraceable sabotage and assassination, removing obstacles with chilling efficiency.

Organization

  • Compartmentalized Web – The organization is built on isolated tiers. Low-level street informants rarely know who they truly report to. Only Isolde, the Shade Widow, sees the entire web.

  • The Whispers – A vast, invisible army of beggars, servants, and orphans who act as the eyes and ears of the network across Drakenstone.

Stronghold

  • Widow's Window – Isolde operates from a quiet, dim room hidden within an old building in the treacherous maze of Blackrat Alley, where she trades in secrets and keeps watch over the city’s underbelly.
