The Steel Watch

The Steel Watch stands as the shield of Drakenstone, sworn to protect its people from both the perils within and the dangers beyond its walls. Bound by oath and burdened by duty, they patrol the streets, enforce the decrees of the High Order, and uphold the law in a city where order is often tested. To most citizens, they are the steady hand that keeps Drakenstone standing through uncertainty and change.

Yet beneath their discipline lies quiet concern. Many within the Watch believe Drakenstone is ill-prepared for what stirs in the Ashen Lands and the wild reaches beyond its borders. Their loyalty to Drakenstone is absolute, but their faith in the High Order’s politics wavers with each passing season.

From their stronghold known as Draken's Vigil in Highgard Ward, Captain Varek leads with measured resolve. A soldier of steady conviction, he stands between the council’s will and the people’s safety—ever watchful, as the weight of duty grows heavier with time.

Beliefs

  • The Shield of the Innocent – The Watch believes their true loyalty is to the citizens of Drakenstone, not the politicians who sign their paychecks.

  • The Approaching Storm – A growing faction within the Watch is deeply paranoid. They believe the High Order is blinded by politics and that a massive threat from the Ashen Lands is imminent.

Purpose

  • Law and Order – The Watch is tasked with patrolling the streets, breaking up illicit activities, and enforcing the laws decreed by the High Order.

  • Border Defense – They man the city walls and gates, acting as the first and last line of physical defense against whatever wanders out of the wild reaches.

Organization

  • Strict Hierarchy – Commanded by Captain Varek, the Watch is a highly disciplined military force divided into specialized units: Wall Guards, Street Patrols, and Heavy Enforcers.

  • Brotherhood of the Blade – Because of the dangers they face, there is a fierce internal loyalty among the guardsmen. They look out for their own, even when it means bending the rules.

Stronghold

  • Draken's Vigil – A towering dark-stone watchtower in the Highgard Ward, serving as the headquarters of Steel Watch and a fortified command post overlooking both the city streets and the wild frontier beyond.
