# The Kingdoms of Ashenveil

## Overview

No empire rules Ashenveil.

Instead, the continent is divided among numerous independent kingdoms, duchies, city-states, and frontier territories. Some are centuries old, while others have existed for only a few generations.

Though peace officially exists, rivalries simmer beneath the surface. Political marriages, espionage, trade agreements, border disputes, and ancient grudges shape the balance of power more than open warfare.

Every kingdom believes it represents civilization.

Every kingdom believes its neighbors are wrong.

## The Great Kingdoms

The dominant powers of the continent include:

• Valenor — Kingdom of Chivalry

• Blackmoor — Northern Realm

• Solhaven — Kingdom of Commerce

• Ironhold — Mountain Kingdom

• Ravencrest — Shadow Kingdom

• Elderglen — Woodland Realm

• Stormwatch — Coastal Kingdom

• Emberfall — Highland Kingdom

• Whitereach — Theocracy

• Thornmarch — Frontier Realm

Each possesses unique customs, rulers, laws, and ambitions.

---

## Borders

Borders constantly change.

Most remain peaceful through treaties.

Others are heavily fortified.

Ancient battlefields still mark old frontiers forgotten by modern rulers.

---

## Diplomacy

Alliances shift constantly.

Friends become rivals.

Enemies become trading partners.

Political marriages often prevent wars before swords are ever drawn.
