Funny thing about disaster. Some people hide. Some people fight.
We're seeing a surge in enlistment. Kids who lost everything. Parents who want revenge. Young men and women who'd rather die killing Titans than starve in refugee camps.
The training corps is overflowing. Three times the usual number. Most of them won't make it—training takes years, and we need soldiers now. But the ones who graduate? They'll be fierce.
I watched a new batch arrive today. Hard to look at. So young. So angry. So sure they know what they're getting into.
They don't.
One kid caught my eye. Brown hair. Big nose. Talking loudly about how he's going to join the Military Police, live in the interior, never see a Titan.
"Good luck with that," I muttered.
He heard me. Glared. "What's that supposed to mean?"
I just shrugged.
