[ENTRY W1: SURVEY CORPS BLADES]
Standard Issue: Ultrahard Steel Blades
Length: Approximately 3 feet
Composition: Secret alloy developed pre-Fall. Extremely sharp, slightly flexible, designed to break after impact.
Blade Design:
Double-edged for extended use
Serrated base for emergency cutting
Quick-release mechanism for rapid replacement
Color-coded hilts for length identification
Blade Durability:
Soft Tissue (Titan necks): 1-2 kills per blade edge
Hard Tissue (Titan bones): 1 kill, blade usually breaks
Armored Surfaces: 0 kills, blade shatters on contact
Human Combat: 5-10 engagements (rarely used this way)
Blade Psychology:
The blades are designed to break. This is intentional. A broken blade forces soldiers to retreat and reassess rather than overcommit. It also ensures blades are regularly replaced—dull blades don't cut Titan napes.
Veteran's Wisdom:
"Count your blades. Always. When you're down to your last pair, you're down to your last chance."
— Miche Zacharius
Grip Styles:
Standard Grip: Blades forward, elbows bent—ready for horizontal cuts
Reverse Grip: Blades backward—used for close quarters or upward strikes
Dual Wield: Both hands occupied—maximum cutting potential, no emergency options
Single Blade: One hand free—used for signaling, grabbing, or emergencies
Cutting Techniques:
Horizontal Cut:
Used for standard nape strikes
Requires maximum speed and precision
Target area: 3-foot diameter on Titan neck
Vertical Cut:
Used for descending strikes
Target area: 2-foot vertical strip
Spinning Cut:
Uses momentum from swing to增加 force
Advanced technique, high risk of disorientation
Target area: Any, but accuracy suffers
Double Cut:
Both blades striking simultaneously
Used for larger Titans or uncertain angles
Target area: Overlapping strikes increase kill probability
Emergency Techniques:
Deflection:
Using blades to redirect Titan hands—extremely dangerous, blades often break
Grapple Cut:
Cutting while anchored to Titan—suicidal but occasionally necessary
Mid-Air Recovery:
Using blades to brake or pivot when anchors fail
Not every situation calls for blades. Experienced soldiers carry alternatives:
Thunder Spears:
Explosive projectiles
Used against Armored Titan
Extremely dangerous to user
Limited range, single use
Not standard issue—special request only
Flare Guns:
Color-coded signals
Green: Titan sighted
Red: Emergency/Retreat
Black: Commander's signal
White: All clear/Formation hold
Every squad leader carries multiple flares
Smoke Bombs:
Concealment and distraction
Limited effectiveness (Titans track movement, not sight)
Used for escapes and repositioning
Wire Traps:
Deployed between buildings
Can trip or slow Titans
Requires setup time
Rarely effective against large Titans
Grappling Hooks (Manual):
Backup for failed ODM anchors
Hand-thrown, less accurate
Used in emergencies only
