Heard something disturbing today.
There's a place beneath the capital. Underground city. Built centuries ago, they say. Full of criminals, outcasts, people who couldn't make it topside.
And apparently, someone from down there joined the Survey Corps years ago. Short guy. Scary eyes. Cleans everything obsessively.
Captain Levi.
I asked a veteran if it's true. He just gave me a look.
"Don't ask Levi about his past. Don't mention the Underground. Don't do anything that might make him look at you twice. Understood?"

But I keep thinking about it. A kid born in darkness, no sky, no sun, crawling his way up to the surface—and now he's humanity's strongest soldier.
Makes Gerhard's advice feel small. "Don't be a hero." Easy for him to say. He wasn't born in hell.
