WHAT IS ODM GEAR?

[ENTRY T1: WHAT IS ODM GEAR?]

Official Name: Vertical Maneuvering Equipment
Common Name: ODM Gear (Omnidirectional Mobility Gear)
Purpose: Allows soldiers to move through three-dimensional space, engage Titans at close range, and navigate urban and forest environments.

The ODM gear is humanity's only effective weapon against Titans. Without it, we cannot reach the nape. With it, we can fly.

Basic Components:

  • Body Harness: Leather and metal framework strapped to the torso, hips, and thighs. Distributes weight and anchors the rest of the equipment.

  • Gas Canisters: Mounted on the hips or lower back. Contain compressed gas that propels the anchors and provides thrust for movement.

  • Anchor Launchers: Wrist-mounted or hip-mounted devices that fire grappling hooks into surfaces. Can retract rapidly, pulling the soldier through the air.

  • Blade Holsters: Located on the hips or thighs. Hold replacement blades for quick access.

  • Control Grips: Handles with triggers for anchor release, gas thrust, and blade locking.
