Mauga Mū characters

Chief Imutapu

Chief Imutapu is a large round man with medium brown skin and a fat jolly face. He wears ceremonial garb and jewelery that resembles a mix of native American and islander cultures. Imutapu carries a big stick that has a lava rock attached on top that has a Ruby growing out of the top. And he uses this staff to work his Clerical magics for the Village. His patron deity that gives him his powers is Magorai, a God of fire and earth believed to be sleeping in the volcano by the people of Mauga Mū Village.

Chief Imutapu was born under the shadow of Magorai, the Sleeping God, within the vibrant heart of Mauga Mū Village. From his earliest days, he was drawn to the whispers of the jungle and the deep rumble of the volcano. Unlike many chieftains who rise through martial prowess, Imutapu's path was one of spiritual devotion and profound connection to the land. He spent his youth immersed in ancient rituals, guided by the village elders, learning to interpret the subtle signs of Magorai's will in the shifting earth, the flowing lava, and the abundant life of the jungle. He was still a young man when a devastating blight threatened to wither the village's sacred crops. While others despaired, Imutapu ventured deep into the volcano's caldera, mediating with Magorai for days. He emerged not only with a cure for the blight but with the glowing ruby-studded lava rock now fixed atop his staff – a direct sign of Magorai's favor. This event solidified his position as chief and high cleric.

Governor Victor Garthis

Governor Victor Garthis is a tall, lean man with a muscular physique. He has short brown hair he keeps in a military high and tight with a longer top section he combs over to the side. He has a wavy goatee and mutton chops on the sides of his face, and a small beer belly. His expression is commonly one of seriousness and authoritarianism. He wears a suit of light plate armor mixed with leather armor underneath the suit. A small green one shoulder cape hangs attached to him draping over his shoulder and down his back. He wields a sturdy battle-axe as his weapon of choice.

Victor Garthis wasn't born into a life of privilege or grand ambition, but into a well-ordered, disciplined military family. From a young age, he was instilled with an unwavering respect for structure, duty, and the letter of the law. Garthis sees the Republic of Dumal not as a means to personal power, but as the epitome of organized civilization and justice. He believes implicitly in the Republic's capacity to bring order and progress to even the most untamed lands. His assignment to the jungle island, with its volatile volcano and spiritual natives, is simply another duty to be carried out. He views the natives' worship of the volcano as a quaint, albeit inefficient, practice that will eventually give way to the Republic's superior methods of governance and resource management. He's not driven by malice or greed; he genuinely believes that bringing the island under Republic control is for everyone's ultimate benefit, even if it requires firm, authoritative measures.

Lorien

Lorien's scales are a dull, grayish color, and his tail is a strange, mutated mess. His eyes glow with a sickly, purple light, and he has strange, spiny growths on his arms and back. His face is gaunt and seems to be in constant pain. He wears tattered robes and is often seen with his hands clenched into fists.

Lorien was a powerful sorcerer who was a direct victim of the Void Corruption. The magic seeped into his very soul, twisting him into something not quite merfolk and not quite monster. He is in constant pain from his corrupted state. He is living proof of what the Void Corruption can do to his people, and he is a voice of warning for them. He has a unique, horrifying understanding of the Void Corruption and what it is capable of.
