Republic Island Dumal and Characters
The Republic of Dumal is the center most island of the Dumal Archipelago, and one of the three largest islands of this part of Attilos. Nine government aristocrat officials oversee the nine islands of Dumal. Each of these Governors are assigned an island to oversee of their own, whether they prefer to be direct or to operate at a distance. Multiple Governing members reside in the Republic City of Dumal and throughout the islands. The bigger chunk of the members choose to reside here in the Republic City, while other members are on their respective islands conducting their part in the operation.
Nine seats sit in a large room around a long table with glass doors that open out to a deck that oversees the port on the nearby beach. In each of these nine seats sits an elected aristocratic representative, each one in charge of government and management on all nine islands. These representatives in power make up "The Republic of the Dumal Archipelago". Their goal is to seize political control over the nine islands of the Dumal Archipelago while trying to cut down on the pirate issue that plages the islands. Privateers are enlisted in this city to help thin the heard on the seas while the soldiers of the city travel to the other islands on galleons to aid in clearing away the bandits on land. This city is the heart of the Dumal Archipelago with it's efforts in keeping the islands safe and prosperous.
Present Governors
Captain Borok "The Slaver"
Borok cuts an imposing figure. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he's a hulking brute of a half-orc, his orcish heritage evident in his tusks, which are filed to sharp points, and the greenish tint to his weathered skin. His bald head is a canvas of old scars, and a distinctive brand of the Republic navy's symbol is seared onto his right cheek. He favors dark, heavy leather armor, reinforced with steel plates, and a blood-red sash is always tied around his waist. His left eye is milky and blind, a souvenir from a particularly nasty boarding action, but his good eye, a piercing yellow, misses nothing. He often wears a heavy, tarnished silver earring in his good ear, shaped like a kraken's tentacle.
Borok's early life was one of hardship and brutality. Born on the fringes of civilization to an orc raider and a human captive, he learned quickly that only the strong survive. He found his way to the Republic navy not through patriotism, but through a desire for power and a thirst for control that he couldn't satiate in the lawless lands he grew up in. His ferocity and natural leadership skills quickly propelled him through the ranks to a Governor of Dumal. He earned his moniker "The Slaver" through his preferred method of replenishing his crew: pressing captured enemies into service. The Republic, ever pragmatic, recognized his effectiveness and his willingness to perform the most brutal tasks.
When the burgeoning pirate problem on the island reached a critical point, Borok was the natural choice. He was given command of a fleet of privateers, largely human, and tasked with not just defending imperial shipping, but actively suppressing & subjugating the pirates on Monitor's Skerry.
Governor Elderberry
Governor Elderberry is a stout chubby old man with thin short limbs, who wears a powdered wig and clothes fit for nobility. His expression is that of judgement and apathy and he keeps a pistol tied at his waist.
Governor Elderberry is the second in command of the organization that is The Republic of the Dumal Archipelago. He is in charge of the government funds of the group and oversees the Island home of the Republic City of Dumal.
Theodore Elderberry was born into a minor noble house teetering on the brink of irrelevance. He saw the world as a grand chessboard, and he was determined to be a grandmaster. He views the colonization of the Dumal Archipelago as the ultimate game—a chance to prove his intellectual superiority and solidify his family's position among the elite governors. He harbors a deep-seated contempt for anything he perceives as chaotic or inefficient, which includes the free-spirited pirates of Dumal and, ironically, the less "organized" methods of some of his fellow governors. He believes that true order can only be achieved through absolute control, and he is willing to sacrifice countless lives to achieve his vision of a perfectly regulated Dumal.
Governor Kaelen Vance
Governor Kaelen Vance is a striking woman in her late thirties. Her long, unruly auburn hair is usually tied back in a practical, yet stylish, braid, often adorned with a few exotic feathers. Her eyes are a startling, intelligent hazel, quick to dart and observe everything around her. While she dresses in the refined silks and velvets befitting a governor, her attire always has a subtle, practical edge: reinforced leather bracers hidden beneath her sleeves, a dagger discreetly sheathed at her lower back, and sturdy, sea-worn boots that peek out from under her elegant skirts. Despite her position, she rarely wears heavy jewelry, preferring simple, functional pieces, though a unique, antique compass pendant always hangs around her neck, tucked beneath her collar. A faint, silvery scar cuts across her left eyebrow, a testament to a life not always lived in drawing rooms.
Kaelen was born on a remote, unassuming island within the Dumal Archipelago, not into a life of privilege, but one marked by the constant threat of pirate raids. Her family, simple fisherfolk, often lost their meager earnings, or worse, their loved ones, to the roving bands of brigands.
As a young woman, she discovered an innate talent for stealth, observation, and quick thinking. She used these skills not for larceny, but for survival, learning to move unseen, gather information, and disappear from trouble. Her natural curiosity led her to explore the hidden coves and ancient ruins of her home island. When Lord Commander Valerius Thorne arrived and began consolidating power, offering an "ordered" future for the archipelago, Kaelen saw another, more direct path to her goal. She is the Governor responsible for Lucky's Point and hides her secret treasure there.
Lord Commander Valerious Thorne
Lord Commander Valerius Thorne is a man in his late forties, impeccably dressed, and deceptively unassuming. He stands at an average height with a slender, almost lithe build that belies his ruthless nature. His hair, a distinguished silver-streaked black, is always perfectly combed back, revealing a high, intelligent forehead. He has sharp, aquiline features, and his eyes, a piercing shade of cerulean, seem to miss nothing, often carrying a faint, unsettling glint of amusement. He favors tailored, dark-colored suits of the finest wool and silk, adorned with discreet gold embroidery and a single, ornate signet ring on his left hand. Despite his public image, a subtle network of old, faded scars peeks out from the collar of his shirt, suggesting a past more rugged than his present.
Valerius Thorne was born into a minor noble house with fading influence in a distant, powerful empire. Though his family held a respectable name, they lacked true power or wealth. This instilled in Valerius a burning ambition and a profound resentment for the established order that had seemingly overlooked his obvious talents. His attention eventually turned to the Dumal Archipelago, a strategically important chain of islands known for its rich resources and independent tribal societies. The Republic had long struggled to assert full control. Valerius saw this as an opportunity. He subtly championed the idea of using "privateering charters" to establish a foothold, carefully selecting nine ambitious, ruthless governers who would unwittingly become his instruments. He financed their ventures, provided them with intelligence, and, most importantly, instilled in them a shared vision of a "unified" archipelago under imperial rule. Secretly working toward plans for The Sea Crater of Dumal.
