"Thalynna" Arc/Poi's

The Isle of Woe and Fury: An Overview of Thalynna

Thalynna, once a serene and untouched plateau of grassy hills, now serves as the blood-soaked stage for a brutal colonial conquest. This is a land of tragic beauty, where ancient elven villages of stone and wood dot a landscape of pine forests and verdant farms, all under the shadow of the Dumal Republic of Thalynna. The islan

The Dumal Republic's Conquest

The human city, a stark contrast to the surrounding natural landscape, is the seat of the Dumal Republic's power on the island. It is here, among the wooden and stone structures, that two governors conduct their business of subjugation.

  • Governor Bardin Thorstein, a man of muscle and cold authority, embodies the systematic brutality of the conquest. As a pragmatic privateer, he is the iron fist of the Republic, using his experience to command the port and military forces with cold efficiency. He sees the island not as a home for its native people, but as a resource to be tamed, conquered, and controlled. His goal is simple: to secure the island for the Republic, no matter the cost in lives or dignity.

  • Governor Cillian Ferrick, a man of cunning and cruelty, is the psychological weapon of the Republic. He is not a man of grand strategy but of personal, vile sadism. His joy comes from the hunt and the suffering he inflicts, viewing the elves as nothing more than an exotic sport. He uses his position to torment the natives, seeing their fear as a personal triumph. He is the unpredictable, hateful force that makes life a living hell for the native elves.

  • The Elven Resistance: A United Front of Defiance

  • In the face of this dual tyranny, the elven chieftains have risen to defend their home, each with a distinct approach forged by their personal encounters with Ferrick's cruelty. Their resistance is a tapestry woven from their collective trauma and unique strengths.

The Guardians of the Cliffs:

Chieftain Bran "The Protector" of Aillte Glasa is a steadfast leader driven to a state of unyielding fury by Ferrick's use of human shields and the desecration of his village's sacred cliffs. He seeks to fortify his village into an impregnable fortress from which to launch his attacks.

Chieftain Brokk "The Anvil" of Saothróir an Inneoin is a master smith whose rage was kindled when Ferrick's forces sacked his home and destroyed his sacred forges. He is determined to arm his people and face the enemy head-on in direct combat.

The Masters of the Land:

Chieftain Ronan "The Whisperer" of Baile na gCnocán uses his people's knowledge of the land and their discretion to ambush and eliminate Ferrick directly, a personal vendetta born from being forced to watch his people be hunted.

Chieftain Cilas "The Wild" of Coille Àrd is a reclusive survivalist with a primal rage ignited when Ferrick hunted his people like animals. His goal is to turn the hunter into the hunted, using ambushes and traps to bring down the governor.

Chieftain Aerion "The Swift" of Carraig Ghiúise uses his skill as an archer and hunter to dismantle Ferrick's hunting parties, making the governor's sadistic "sport" too dangerous to continue.

Chieftain Faolan "The Steadfast" of Camas Aille is a celebrated warrior and a traditionalist who seeks to drive Ferrick out entirely, though his stubborn adherence to honorable battle tactics often leaves him vulnerable to Ferrick's cruel methods.

Chieftain Lorcan "The Elder" of Leaca Tuath uses his wisdom and knowledge of the land to outlast Ferrick, crippling his supply lines and making the island an unprofitable venture for the Republic

The Keepers of the Old Ways:

Chieftain Maeve "The Earthmother" of Ardchlár Plásóige Choille uses her deep connection to the land to fight Ferrick's corrupting influence, seeking to heal the land he has defiled.

Chieftain Sorcha "The Seer" of Creag an Lar uses ancient magic and visions to launch psychic assaults against Ferrick's mind, turning his own madness against him.

Chieftain Niamh "The Listener" of Cuar an Ghleanna fights with empathy and lore, seeking to shatter Ferrick's morale and turn his own forces against him through the power of story and truth.

The Elusive Adversary

In the midst of this struggle, Sionn Ó Sidhe, a figure of local legend, acts as a malicious but powerful force of nature. An unsettling, otherworldly creature born of a dryad and an elf, he is an expert in deception and malevolent trickery. Sionn is the ultimate thorn in Ferrick's side, a clever and elusive adversary who is a master of guerrilla warfare. His constant, frustrating sabotage of Ferrick's operations makes the governor’s life a living hell, and their rivalry serves as a twisted reflection of the island's larger conflict: the unpredictable chaos of native magic and folklore against the organized, brutal cruelty of colonial oppression.

Dumal archipelago island Thalynna

The second island of the Dumal Archipelago is a plateau of grassy hills with small forests and marshes dotting the landscape. The native elves in the forests of the island call this place Thalynna. Thalynna only has one major city where the Dumal governor of Thalynna resides and conducts his business. A major human city in contrast with the elven villages dotting the landscape.

Thalynna Port is a small port built on the rocky slope of an island shore. A few decent ships line the small costal opening tied to docks that lead to the rock slope up the island plateau.

Several large ships are docked here throughout the year.

Villages

Aillte Glasa is a medium sized village in the middle of a pine forest that rests on a cliff side of a large plateau island. There's a wall made of logs from great pines around the village and the forest hugs the wall surrounding the village closely. The houses of this village are made of stone and thatched grassy rooftops and there is a smithy, farm, and a barracks within the village walls along with the dozens of homes.

Ardchlár Plásóige Choille is a village surrounded by verdant farmlands tilled on a vast expanse of small grassy hills. The houses are made of rock walls with stone reinforced wooden rooftops, and it sits exposed to it's surrounding areas.

Baile na gCnocán is a decent sized village located in the hilly region of this plateau island. Short stone walls encircle the village, parting only for the stairs carved from the earthen hillside up and down the village. Huts made of stone and thatched grass rooftops sit crammed among each other in clusters on the hills, and the farms of this village lie at the feet of the wavy mounds the village was built apon.

Camas Aille is a village made of wood and stone built on the edge of a forest bluff that overlooks a rocky cove. The Chieftains but is the largest of the buildings with several dozen smaller huts dotting the forest clearing on this cliff. Aside from the residential buildings there is a small farm, a market, and a smithy within the village as well.

Carraig Ghiúise is a village in the grasslands encircled by a pine forest to the far north of where the rocky landscape slopes down into the sea. All of the buildings are sturdily made of stone and clay with grassy thatched rooftops. The village is protected by a low circular rock wall about four feet in height and an iron gate to close the gap.

Cuar an Ghleanna is a village of buildings made of rock and grassy thatched rooftops nestled in the bottom of a valley. Vast farmlands dot the area and houses are neumorous. A few mills harvest energy from the river or from the high valley winds that blow through the hills. A smithy is found among the biggest cluster of buildings in the village, and a barracks sits next to the Chieftain's hut on the outer rim of town

Saothróir an Inneoin is a large farming village that has heavily reinforced rock and oak walls like a castle surrounding the main village. A landscape of crop fields expands outward in all directions around the village wall, and log spikes jutt out from the feet of the wall that surrounds the village. A singular tall wooden watchtower rises from within the village in the walls, providing a high vantage point to watch for attackers all around.

Coille Àrd is a village made of stone and thatched rooftops like every other on the island. The village sits atop a short plateau that is blanketed by a thick pine forest that drapes vines over the side of the landscape. Rope pulley systems attached to the edge of the plateau allow the native Elves of this village to travel up and down with greater ease.

Creag an Lar is a village of stone buildings and thatched rooftops built near the edge of the western cliff side that slopes into the sea surrounding this Plateau island. A stairway is carved into the outside of the cliff face that zigzags downward towards a few fishing boats anchored next to the island. Four wooden watchtowers border the outside of the village and small farms scatter the countryside.

Leaca Tuath is a village of buildings made of stone and grass thatched rooftops that was built up the windward slope of a large hill that rises sloped upward ending in the steep cliff edges of the archipelago island. The stone made homes of the village lay parallel to each other as the village climbs up the slope. Carved stairways made into the earthy slope provide walkways that travel up and down the incline.
