The Sea Crater

The merfolk of the Sea Crater, known as the Shellkin, are the keepers of ancient lore. They believe the meteorite that formed their island was a celestial egg, a gift from an ancient cosmic entity. It is a font of spiritual energy, the source of their magic and their longevity. The island is their most sacred ground, a place of pilgrimage and a living library of their people's history. They are a deeply spiritual people, concerned more with the affairs of the past than the present.

Nylia

Nylia's body is covered in the pearlescent sheen of an oyster shell, her skin a smooth, almost glowing cream color. Her hair is long, silvery, and adorned with luminous pearls. Her eyes are a deep, soulful blue, and she moves with a slow, ethereal grace. Her lower body is a swirl of smooth, layered shells that gently clack against each other as she swims.

Nylia is the high cleric of the Sea Crater, the most powerful spellcaster of the Shellkin. She communicates directly with the celestial energy of the meteorite, interpreting its whispers and translating its history to her people. She believes the meteorite is the soul of their world. She has seen the rise and fall of countless civilizations, and she views the Dumal Republic as just another temporary problem.

Kor'tan

Kor'tan's torso is mottled with the dark, speckled patterns of a rock crab, his skin the color of sun-baked earth. A thick, chitinous shell protects his back, and his arms are tipped with the powerful claws of a coconut crab. His hair is a mass of swirling black algae, and his eyes are a deep, knowing green. He moves with a slow, deliberate strength.

Kor'tan is the undisputed guardian of the Sea Crater. He was born with a shell and claws harder than any other in his tribe, a sign he was destined to protect the sacred meteorite. He does not fear intruders, for he knows the holy ground is a part of him. He has spent centuries at the crater's edge, silently meditating and battling the monsters that try to encroach on the holy site.

Shalani

Shalani is a tiny, delicate creature, her body a bright, vibrant pink, like the flesh of a royal shrimp. She is fast and nimble, and her large, black eyes give her a youthful, inquisitive look. Her hair is a spiky halo of purple that resembles a sea urchin, and her tail is a translucent, feathery fin that allows her to dart through the water at incredible speeds.

Shalani is the youngest and most curious of the Sea Crater merfolk. Unlike her people, she has a fascination with the outside world. She often sneaks away from the crater to watch the human ships and to listen to the whispers of the ocean. She is a natural spy, and she is always looking for a new adventure. She believes that the world is much bigger than her people's lore.
