Vissara Characters Involved
Kazzak
Kazzakk's life was forged in the crucible of war. Born amidst the chaos of a human battlefield, he learned early on the art of survival, honing his senses and instincts to navigate the treacherous landscape. As a young goblin, he witnessed the brutality of kings and the relentless onslaught of medieval knights, his small frame a mere target in the grand scheme of the conflict. Yet, Kazzakk's mind proved to be his greatest weapon, adapting and sharpening with each passing year, until he caught the attention of human commanders who saw the potential in the diminutive warrior. Under their tutelage, Kazzakk mastered the ways of combat, strategy, and diplomacy, becoming a formidable asset in their ranks. However, the call of his goblin heritage eventually grew too strong, and one fateful night, Kazzakk turned against his human captors, setting their camp ablaze and reclaiming his freedom, his primal nature finally unleashed.
Agatha
Agatha, once a mere goblin among her hovel, rose to become a cunning and formidable queen. Her ascent began during the sacred ritual of Akahn, a ceremony where the strongest male warriors of the goblins competed in a life-or-death chase through the woods. It was during this ritual that an unsuspecting human prince stumbled into the fray, drawn in by the incense-fueled frenzy. The prince's success in the competition led to the final part of the ritual, the Bonding, and a decade later, Agatha returned to the now-older King Eustace with a human-goblin hybrid daughter, a sibling to the king's son and a rightful part of the royal succession. Agatha's proposition to the king was a threatening one – either he accepted responsibility for the child and raised her as his own for ten years, or she would abduct his son, flood the kingdom with an invasion of her kin, and withdraw the protection of the surrounding mountains, leaving the kingdom vulnerable to the forces beyond.
Oggana
Oggana's life was a tapestry of contrasts, woven with the threads of her goblin and human heritage. Born to the formidable Queen Agatha of the Great Hovel and the noble Lord Eustace of Shoalridge, she was a fate child, a living embodiment of the union between the savage and the civilized. Raised amidst the bustling horde of ten thousand goblins, Oggana's intelligence blossomed, a sophisticated mind nestled within a feral, diminutive frame. While her goblin kin embraced violence as a way of life, Oggana found herself drawn to the natural world and the abandoned artifacts left by fearful human trespassers. When her mother orchestrated a journey to the human kingdom, Oggana's first encounter with her father and newfound brother was marked by their astonishment at her unique appearance. Yet, in the gaze of her brother, Oggana found a kinship that promised a future where her dual nature could be celebrated, not feared.
Balin Stonefist
Balin Stonefist was once a proud guard of the Deep Mines of Hohendurim. His life devoted to the rhythmic clang of pickaxe and hammer. He'd seen his share of cave-ins and minor skirmishes, but nothing prepared him for the silent, swift brutality of the Noctura goblins' recent assault on the outer mining outpost. Balin was on patrol when the attack began, narrowly escaping the initial wave that overwhelmed his comrades. He fought valiantly, but was ultimately forced to retreat, witnessing firsthand the terrifying agility of the pale-skinned fiends. He carries the guilt of survival heavy on his broad shoulders, alongside a deep-seated desire for vengeance and to warn King Borin of this escalating threat. He knows the mountain's secrets and the old paths, making him a valuable, albeit traumatized, guide.
Lady Ivanna
As a child Ivanna wandered the mountains of Vak'Dura. Alone and relatively new to the world she was in search of a place to call home, when she found Castle Vak'Dura. In this castle she was taken in by a terminally ill elderly giant named Igram. Igram spent his last few years educating Ivanna in the knowledge of the world and instilling the value of aiding others in her core beliefs. She has only one known living relative far away in Ahnekis. Her uncle Oram, who in her adulthood she worries about constantly, knowing he too is getting on in age and won't be long before he too passes. She spends her days in Castle Vak'Dura studying her tombes of collective world knowledge and tending to the nature that is native to the mountains. Serving as an occasional host to other weary travelers who find themselves at her door.
Lyra
Born in a sky-dwarf citadel, Lyra had an insatiable curiosity for the arcane, a rarity among her people. She believed the secrets of the world's reshaping were in the magical rather than the physical world. She left her home to study the "wild magic" that permeates the shattered lands. Her research has uncovered a connection between old-world magic and the new magical crystals that drift through the air.
Keira
Keira is from a reclusive Elderan clan in Vissara. She felt a deep connection to the land after the world was broken and saw it as a wound to be healed. She became a Ranger, dedicating her life to hunting down creatures twisted by the wild magic of the new world's magical crystals. She left her home to protect the innocent and now often works with humans and dwarves.
Elenore Blackwood
Elenore wasn't born into leadership, but into a life intimately intertwined with the ancient woods of Adrie. From a young age, she showed an unusual affinity for both the raw magic flowing through the land and the subtle rhythms of the arcane. While other elven children practiced archery or weaving, Elenore communed with the whispering trees and the glittering starlight. There, she discovered the druidic paths of nature.
Adrie, hidden by its ancestral plane barrier, remained untouched for centuries. Elenore rose to become one of its most respected druids, renowned for her deep connection to the forest's spirit. Her ascent to Chieftain came not through political maneuvering, but from a desperate need. When a creeping blight, unlike any seen before, threatened the very heart of their magical barrier, Elenore stood firm. Weaving together her druidic wisdom and her innate sorcerous power, she confronted the blight head-on, sacrificing a part of her own essence to mend the breach.
Aella MacTavish
From a young age, she displayed an uncanny aptitude for combat and strategy, often outmaneuvering boys twice her age in mock skirmishes. Her initiation into the Battle Bunker at fourteen wasn't just a right of passage; it was a foretelling of her destiny. She quickly distinguished herself, not only through her unparalleled skill with the claymore and spear but also her unyielding resolve and ability to inspire those around her.
She rose through the ranks with an almost unheard-of speed, earning the moniker "Stonehand" after a legendary defense of Adrie's northern pass against a band of mountain trolls, where she fought relentlessly for hours, her grip on her weapon never wavering. Aella's deep understanding of Adrie's values—courage, loyalty, and the indomitable spirit of their people—made her a natural leader. She views the Battle Bunker not just as a training ground, but as the forge where the next generation of Adrie's protectors are tempered.
Varya Volkov
Varya was raised in a remote, mountainous village in Vissara, a place largely untouched by the outside world. Her people held an ancient reverence for the wild spirits and the majestic giants that roamed their lands. When a plague of magically corrupted beasts began to descend from the peaks, Varya, guided by the spirit of the bear, swore an oath to protect her village. She now acts as a lone guardian, hunting the beasts and protecting both humans and the good-natured giants from harm.
Garim, The Unyielding
Known as Garm the Unyielding, he was a jomsviking—a mercenary warrior sworn to a fortress in the north. During a long-forgotten war, Garm and his small force were tasked with delaying a massive army to allow their allies to escape. He made a last stand on a narrow bridge, and for an entire day, he held the choke point against thousands of foes, falling only when a desperate soldier managed to strike him from below. The gods, impressed by his sheer will, refused him entry to Valhalla, instead cursing him to wander the world as an immortal warden of bridges, forever reliving his final moments.
Borin "Stonebeard" Eizenherz
King Borin is a colossal dwarf, standing a full five feet tall with shoulders like a blacksmith's anvil. His frame is immensely powerful, built for both relentless mining and brutal combat. A network of old scars crisscrosses his hands and forearms, testaments to countless battles.
Borin Stonebeard wasn't born into luxury; he was forged in the deep mines of Hohendurim, a pickaxe in his hand from the moment he could swing one. His youth was spent toiling alongside his kin, learning the secrets of the mountain and the strength of dwarven craftsmanship. Even then, his booming laugh echoed through the tunnels, and his ready hand was always there to lift a fallen comrade. When the Noctura goblins first began their insidious incursions from the adjacent peaks—a shadowy tide creeping from their cavernous lair—Borin was among the first to stand on the walls, axe in hand. He distinguished himself not just as a formidable warrior, but as a cunning tactician. When his predecessor, King Thrain, fell in battle against a particularly nasty goblin shaman, the council unanimously declared Borin the new king.
Now, Borin rules with a heavy heart but an unyielding will. He harbors a deep-seated hope that one day, Hohendurim will truly know peace again.
