King Aldric Erikson

The history of @King Aldric Erikson is not merely the story of one man, but the culmination of two centuries of iron-willed survival and the divine mandate of the God of Light. To understand the "Old King" is to understand the blood of the Eriksons, a dynasty that transformed a fractured collection of city-states into the preeminent human civilization of the known world.

The Foundation: Erik the Great

The lineage began with Erik the Great, a legendary warlord who rose to prominence a century after the ancient Ishteka Empire had already crumbled into myth and dust. At that time, humanity had largely forgotten that serpent-folk ever ruled the continent. Erik, however, saw the chaos of the southern jungles—not as an ancient ghost, but as a modern nest of monsters and lawless Yuan-ti city-states that threatened the burgeoning human settlements.

During the Unification Wars, Erik systematically annexed the druidic lands of Verdan and the hardy mountain holds of Woodward, forging the Kingdom of Aethelgard. He established the capital at High-crest, decreeing that the "Radiance" of human civilization would forever serve as a bulwark against the "Deep Green" of the southern wilds.

The Succession of Iron and Grace

Following Erik, the Erikson monarchs focused on turning a conquered territory into a cohesive empire:

• King Valerius the Architect (Aldric’s Grandfather): He shifted the focus from conquest to infrastructure, commissioned the gleaming white stone walls of the Solar Gilded District, and established the Citadel of the Radiant Strike. He solidified the worship of the God of Light as the state religion, linking the survival of the kingdom to spiritual purity.

• Queen Elara the Vigilant (Aldric’s Mother): A warrior-queen who spent more time in the barracks of Woodward than the ballrooms of High-crest. She realized that the threat from the south was evolving; while the Ishteka were gone, the rise of Ssendis the Usurper in the distant city-state of Kha-Zul signaled a new kind of divine malice. She began the tradition of heavily funding the High-crest Guilds, treating monster hunting as a vital state industry.

The Reign of Aldric: The Old King

Now, King Aldric Erikson sits upon the Solar Throne as the living embodiment of his ancestors' ambitions. To Aldric, his lineage is a chain of duty he cannot break. He is obsessed with Absolute Security; he does not care for the ancient history of the Yuan-ti, only the current reality that their descendants and the monsters of the jungle threaten his borders.

Under Aldric, Aethelgard has reached its peak of organization. He views every serpent-cult, every roaming beast, and every shadow in the woods as a personal affront to the God of Light. His policy is simple: Containment through Eradication. By funneling the kingdom's vast wealth into the military and the Guilds, he ensures that the "Radiance" his ancestor Erik first ignited never flickers out. For Aldric, the crown is not a prize, but a shield—and he will hold it until his last breath to ensure the monsters of the south never cross the threshold of High-crest.
