The Crimson Covenant

The Crimson Covenant is a fanatical, mostly human cult entrenched within the scorched obsidian valleys of the Ash-Choked Wilds. Unlike many cults that seek world-ending cataclysms, the Covenant operates as a brutal, efficient subordinate workforce dedicated entirely to the magnification of their master’s ego and wealth. They are the living extension of an adult red dragon’s avarice—serving not as equals, but as a meticulously organized army of slaves, stewards, and enforcers who have traded their humanity for the warmth of the dragon’s hearth.

Operations & Hierarchy

The cult’s existence is defined by three pillars of service to their master:

• Acquisition (The Hoard): The Covenant's primary directive is the expansion of the dragon's hoard. They are expert thieves and raiders who specialize in the "Fiery Harvest"—systematic strikes on merchant caravans and remote settlements to seize gold and heat-reactive gems like rubies and fire opals.

• The Foundry (The Lair): To maintain the dragon’s absolute comfort and the integrity of its lair, the cult kidnaps master blacksmiths and architects. These captives are kept in "The Soot-Cells," forced to maintain the lair's heat-venting systems and polish the dragon’s massive scales.

• Expansion (The Ash-Born): To ensure the cult's longevity, they prioritize the kidnapping of children. These "Ash-Born" are indoctrinated from a young age, raised in a culture of fear where the dragon is their only god and its roar is the only law.

Rituals of Ash and Fire

The Covenant maintains dominance through public, terrifying displays of loyalty and "purity."

• The Burning of Dissenters: Anyone within the cult who shows doubt—or any captive who refuses to work—is sacrificed in a ritual known as "The Breath of Grace." They are cast into the volcanic vents of the Ash-Choked Wilds, an act intended to appease the dragon’s arrogance.

• The Dragon’s Mark: High-ranking members are branded with a red-hot iron in the shape of a dragon’s wing, a permanent symbol of their ownership by the Cinder-King.

They live in a camp within the Ash-Choked Wilds called The Crimson Covenant Camp, a collection of soot-stained yurts inhabited by the cult. They believe they will inherit the world after it burns. Due to close proximity to the various reptilians factions like the Yuan-Ti and Lizardfolk tribes, they are constantly fighting battles to secure their Adult Red Dragon Ruler’s Territory, usually sending their Army of Slave Soldiers and Kobolds as shock troops.
