The God of Light (Joosep Valgus)

In the theological heart of the kingdom, the God of Light is not merely a distant sun; he is the literal designer of the region. Long ago, it is said he struck the raw earth with a sword of living lightning, carving the borders of Bandali from the primordial chaos. From the sparks of that strike, he forged Humans—short-lived beings compared to elves or dwarves, but possessed of a "Bright Spark" that drives them to innovate, build, and adapt with a speed that fascinates the divine.

The Great Betrayal and the Silent Plot

In the ancient days, the Ishteka people—originally human—worshiped the God of Light alone. However, they were eventually seduced by the promises of the Great Serpent, who corrupted the God of Light's creation to forge the first Yuan-ti.

Lore keepers whisper that the God of Light did not take this loss of his children lightly. Bound by Cosmic Rules that forbid deities from direct, world-shaking intervention, he allegedly resorted to subtle whispers and divine plotting. It is believed his influence played a quiet, decisive role in luring the Great Serpent into its current, unreachable slumber, effectively causing the Ishteka Empire to starve for guidance and collapse from within.

The Wanderer: Joosep Valgus

Because he cannot descend in his full, blinding glory without shattering the material world, the God of Light roams Bandali through a humble Avatar.

• The Form: He appears as a tan-skinned traveler with a face full of freckles and a clean, practical haircut. Dressed in the simple, dusty clothes of a commoner or a low-ranking adventurer, he carries himself with a quiet, observant grace.

• The Name: While the heavens know him only as the Light, mortals who encounter his traveling form know him as Joosep Valgus.

• The Purpose: Joosep travels the roads of Aethelgard and the fringes of the Ishteka jungles, experiencing his creation firsthand. He rarely draws his power unless the balance of Bandali is truly threatened, preferring to watch his children grow, innovate, and overcome challenges on their own.

The Father of the Returned

The God of Light’s relationship with the various races of Bandali is defined by a paternal, yet selective, love:

• The Humans: His first and most cherished creation, whom he views as the vibrant core of the region's future.

• The Disparate: Unlike the suspicious knights of High-crest, the God of Light harbors a deep, protective love for the Disparate. He views them as his "Returned Children"—beings who were stolen and corrupted by the Serpent but found the strength to reclaim their humanity and "thaw" their hearts.

• The Other Races: While he did not create the Elves, Dwarves, or other lineages that have migrated to Bandali, he adopts any who follow the Light as his own. He values their presence in his "Garden," seeing their unique cultures as further enrichment of the land he carved.

To most, Joosep Valgus is just another face in the crowd at a roadside inn in Verdan or a quiet traveler passing through the gates of High-crest. But to those with eyes to see, there is a warmth in his presence that feels like the first rays of dawn after a long, cold night.
