The Hallowed Coil
Leader: Ssendis, The Resonant Usurper
Seat of Power: The Obsidian City of Kha-Zul
The Hallowed Coil is not merely a kingdom; it is a Living Reliquary. Every citizen, from the lowliest Pureblood to the most decorated Abomination, is taught that they are a cell in the body of the Great Serpent, and Ssendis is the mind that moves them. While other Yuan-ti wait for a god to wake, the Hallowed Coil believes the god has already spoken through Ssendis.
The Doctrine of the Resonance
The core belief of this faction is the Resonance. Ssendis teaches that the Great Serpent’s slumber is a test of worthiness. By "resonating" their thoughts and logic with Ssendis, the followers believe they are keeping the Great Serpent’s dream alive.
In reality, this is the mechanical basis for the Siphon. Ssendis has modified the traditional Rituals of Slither within his domain. When a member of the Hallowed Coil ascends to a new stage (e.g., from Pureblood to Malison), a portion of the psychic energy released during the transformation is diverted. Instead of returning to the spiritual weave of Bandali, it is funneled directly into Ssendis, bloating his power and granting him his signature, unnatural emerald glow.
Military Structure: The Constrictors
The Hallowed Coil does not fight with the disorganized cruelty of common monsters; they fight with the synchronized grace of a single organism.
• The Hollowed Guard (Purebloods): These scouts are often "spiritually emptied," making them immune to fear or charm. They operate as a hive mind, reporting back to Ssendis with eerie, perfect recall.
• The Siphon-Priests (Malisons): Usually Type 1 (Snake-headed), these priests carry "Resonance Staves" made of jade that allow them to drain the magical essence of enemies on the battlefield to recharge Ssendis’s own reserves.
• The Heralds of Kha-Zul (Abominations): These elite commanders act as mobile anchors for Ssendis’s will. On the battlefield, Ssendis can actually speak through their mouths and cast spells through their bodies, effectively allowing him to be in multiple places at once.
The Great Deception
To the outside world, the Hallowed Coil looks like a prosperous revival of the Ishteka Empire. They offer "order" and "evolution" to any Yuan-ti who feels abandoned by their sleeping god. However, the dark secret of the faction is that Ssendis has no intention of waking the Great Serpent. If the god were to wake, Ssendis’s stolen power would be reclaimed instantly. Thus, the Hallowed Coil’s true, hidden mission is to expand the Siphon until Ssendis himself becomes the new "Great Serpent," effectively devouring his own creator from the inside out.
