Yuan-ti Stages of Tranformation

For the Yuan-ti , the physical body is a ladder. They believe that the more one sheds their "warm-blooded" human features, the closer they come to the divine logic of the Great Serpent. Transformation is a reward for intellectual merit and devotion, achieved through the Ritual of Slither.

The Stages of the Ascent

1. Purebloods: The starting point. They appear almost entirely human, save for subtle signs like vertical pupils or patches of scales. In the fallen empire's social hierarchy, they are the scouts—capable of walking among the "emotional" races of Bandali without detection.

2. Malisons: These individuals have undergone further rites, manifesting more pronounced serpentine traits. This stage is divided into those with snake heads, those with massive serpent tails instead of legs, or those whose arms have been replaced by living snakes. They are the living weapons of the Yuan-ti.

3. Abominations: The high-caste elite. They are massive serpents with human-like torsos and arms. To a Yuan-ti, the Abomination represents the near-perfect fusion of cold intellect and predatory grace.

4. Anathemas: Colossal, multi-headed horrors that have transcended the limits of biology. They are no longer truly "mortal" and serve as the closest thing to a living avatar of the sleeping Great Serpent. The only Anathema that has existed since the fall of the Ishteka Empire is Ssendis.

To advance through the stages of transformation, a Yuan-ti must undergo the Ritual of Slither, a grueling process involving the consumption of a magical brew made from snake venom and the blood of sentient humanoids. Beyond this physical act, the aspirant must prove their mental coldness through successful conquests or intellectual feats, as the Great Serpent only permits those with the sharpest logic to shed their human skin and ascend.

The Ultimate Goal: Godhood

The Yuan-ti do not merely want to look like snakes; they want to become gods. This "Ultimate Ascension" is the final stage of their logic. They believe that by accumulating enough arcane power and performing mass sacrifices of "lesser" beings, an individual can transcend the Anathema stage and become a Great Serpent in their own right.

This ambition is driven by a cold necessity: since their original god will not wake, the most powerful among them intend to replace him, seizing the mantle of divinity to re-establish the Ishteka Empire and purge Bandali of its "weak" emotional inhabitants once and for all.
