DNA Boom of 2069

The DNA Boom

The year 2069 marked a monumental turning point in global history. The DNA splicing/mixing technology, which had been a niche and expensive practice, underwent a breakthrough that made it cheap and easy to mass-produce. This event, known as the DNA Boom, fundamentally altered society.

With the new technology, the creation of anthros became an efficient, industrial process. Traditional birthing practices, which had long been the norm for both anthros and humans, became increasingly obsolete. As the cloning chambers churned out new generations of ever-larger, more specialized male anthros, the need for females in traditional procreation dwindled. This led to a rapid societal shift where the female population became increasingly rare, as the anthro race had no need for traditional mating practices.

Driven by evolving social standards that favored larger, more powerful builds, each new generation of anthro offspring was deliberately engineered to be bigger and more robust than the last. This led to the modern anthro population, where the average male is a hulking mass of muscle or a ponderous figure of fat. This shift was so profound that it changed the very biology of the anthro races. In this new reality, being lean or thin is considered a sign of poor health, while a large, corpulent frame is seen as a sign of normal, healthy well-being.

For @Human, the DNA Boom was a catastrophic event. Unable to benefit from the new genetic technology, they became an analog, physically inferior minority in a world of ever-growing anthros. The support infrastructure for traditional birthing was dismantled, leaving humanity in a state of terminal decline. What was once the dominant race became a marginalized relic, a living testament to an outdated form of life.
