Food In Baratopia
The food in Baratopia is a direct reflection of its capitalistic nature and the anthros' altered biology. The vast majority of available food is processed, sugary, fatty. The food isnt simply "junk" It's "slop". This slop food culture is where calorie counts are in the thousands, and the ingredients are often an indecipherable list of chemicals and additives. The portion sizes are massive, designed to satiate the enormous appetites of the anthro population.
Due to the DNA splicing and mixing over generations, the common anthro's digestive system has evolved to handle this onslaught of processed food without any immediate or long-term health defects. This biological adaptation doesn't change the fact that there's very little nutritional value in what is consumed, but it means that the health crises associated with a junk food diet simply don't exist for the anthro populace.
Origins of the processed foods:
The origin of this processed food culture is rooted in a vicious cycle of supply and demand. In the hyper-capitalistic landscape of Baratopia, food corporations are locked in a relentless battle for consumer attention and money. With the physical inability for anthros to get sick from their food, the only limit became consumer desire. This caused a race to the bottom, where companies competed to create the most outrageously over-the-top, addictive, and calorically dense "slop" imaginable. Ingredients are chosen not for nutritional value, but for their ability to create an intense flavor rush and trigger pleasure centers in the brain. This snowball effect has led to a society where all food has become highly processed, engineered to be intensely addictive, and yes, very, very tasty.
