Mosspike Sierra

@Mosspike Sierra

Overview

The @Mosspike Sierra is a rugged expanse of steep, green mountains. A place where damp air clings to the skin and the earth never dries. Every surface glistens with moss, slick and treacherous, concealing the jagged stone beneath. Towering cliffs rise like emerald blades against the horizon, their slopes cloaked in dense foliage and mist. Beneath them lie shadowed valleys filled with broken stone, tangled roots, and the bones of those who misstepped upon the perilous terrain.

The Sierra is a land of beauty and peril in equal measure. Lush and alive, yet unwelcoming to the careless. Locals call it the Green Maw, for it swallows travelers whole and returns nothing but silence and the slow drip of water through moss.

Geography & Setting

The mountains of the @Mosspike Sierra climb steeply from the eastern edges of the @Zarshan Dunes and @Landbourne Flats, forming a wall of wet stone and fog. Where the dunes and the savannah shimmer with heat and light, the Sierra is cool and dim, its air heavy with moisture. Water seeps constantly from the cliffs, forming narrow streams that twist through the valleys below before vanishing underground.

Every rock face is slick with moss; thick, soft layers that glow faintly in shaded hollows. The forests here are dense but uneven, growing wherever roots can find purchase among the cliffs. Trees twist and reach sideways from the slopes, their branches heavy with hanging vines and dripping leaves.

The valleys are another world entirely: choked with mist, echoing with distant falls of stone, and strewn with the remains of creatures, both beast and man, that failed to find safe footing. Bones lie half-buried in moss, picked clean by unseen scavengers. The air carries the scent of damp earth, decay, and life reborn.

The paths through the Sierra are few, dangerous and shifting. Landslides are common, and bridges made of rope and wood often collapse under their own rot. On the western side lies the last Orc settlement @Krokfang, a dangerous place for anyone who isn't an Orc.

Flora of the @Mosspike Sierra

Common

  1. @Miremoss – A thick, dark-green moss that coats nearly every surface. It holds vast amounts of moisture and is used by travelers to collect drinkable water, though it leaves a bitter taste.

  2. @Spineleaf – A broad, saw-edged plant that grows in clusters along shaded paths. Its leaves are sharp enough to draw blood and are often used by local Orcs to fashion makeshift bindings.

  3. @Dripvine – Long, rope-like vines that hang from cliffs and trees, constantly dripping water. Their roots burrow deep into stone crevices, marking where underground springs lie hidden.

Uncommon

  1. @Streamlace Colocasia - A silver‑fringed aquatic plant harvested from riverbanks, ground into a poultice it can cure some sicknesses and soothes burns.

Very Rare

  1. @Gravebloom – A flower found only in the deepest valleys, feeding from the bones buried beneath the moss. Its black petals shimmer with green light, and its scent is said to induce vivid dreams of the dead who lie below.
