The northern reaches of Bondire are remembered as the most treacherous part of the kingdom, both in their harsh landscapes and in the instability of their people. When @Flewbourne lifted into the skies generations ago, it was not only the city that was transformed. The surrounding northern provinces, once tied closely to Landbourne’s trade and governance, were suddenly abandoned. Without the watchful presence of royal garrisons or the protection of a strong northern capital, authority weakened.
In the decades that followed, crime flourished and law fractured. Towns and villages were forced to fend for themselves, often with little aid from the southern crown. Some communities endured by turning inward, becoming fiercely self-reliant, relying on the strength of kinship and the cycle of the land. Others forged new bonds with the south, bartering loyalty for security or trade routes. These settlements, though wary of @Goldendra’s politics, found a measure of stability through cooperation.
Not all northern towns adjusted so well. Many remained in a state of disarray, fragmented by feuds or consumed by opportunists who thrived in lawless conditions. In such places, survival meant adaptation: smuggling became trade, mercenaries became protectors, and old grudges often mattered more than royal decrees. Entire villages learned to live in hardship, clinging to customs that outsiders might call brutal but which the locals regard as necessary.
Today, the north remains marked by this divided legacy. Travelers speak of industrious steadings where hearthfires burn brightly and the people are fiercely loyal to one another, as well as of valleys where brigands rule and justice is little more than a memory. It is a land of resilience and peril, where the absence of authority gave rise to both stubborn independence and enduring scars.
