Long ago, the kingdom of Bondire stood as a beacon of prosperity and peace, ruled by a line of kings said to carry the blood of the @Aether itself. Under their steady reign, the kingdom thrived, its troubles few and its people content.
That golden age ended over two centuries past, when the last great Aether King passed peacefully into history. His only heir, a young and untested son, took the throne with the guidance, and manipulation, of an ambitious council of advisors. What began as a hopeful reign slowly withered under the weight of fear and greed.
The king grew wary of the largest the northern city, Landbourne, whose rapid rise threatened to rival the king's capital, @Goldendra, in the south. Determined to halt it's ascent, he sent armies to occupy and control it, choking innovation and stalling its growth. But the people of Landbourne would not be subdued.
Their mayor, wielding a power no record can fully explain, lifted the entire city into the sky. @Flewbourne, the Sky City, was born - a floating refuge beyond the reach of the king’s armies. The last of the occupying forces were driven out as the sky-city claimed its independence.
The upheaval fractured the realm. Villages and towns surrounding what was once Landbourne fell into chaos, their people caught between the aggression of the crown and abandonment by the unreachable city above.
The last Aether King died years later, aged with resentment. With no clear heir, he left behind a tangled legacy of children born to different mothers. One by one, these scattered heirs met mysterious and untimely ends, feeding the realm’s growing unrest. For thirty years, the kingdom was ruled by the same families of the advisors who had once controlled the young king.
Then came @Queen Elyndra Goldheart. Born in secret to a royal serving maid, her existence hidden from the court, she emerged with the undeniable proof and power of the @Aether bloodline. Against all expectation, she claimed the throne and began the long road to kingdom restoration.
Today, thirty-five years after her rise, Bondire is once again a land of promise. The wounds between @Goldendra and @Flewbourne have begun to heal, sealed by the union of the current Flewbourne Lord, @Lord Galroy Direhand, and daughter of @Lord Arin Roseblood, the Queen's closest advisor, @Lady Salnia Direhand. The Northern regions of Bondire remain mostly untamed and dangerous, a place of lingering bitterness and old feuds. Though the kingdom flourishes, there are those who remember the past and whisper of powers that may yet return.
