Boomers are synthetic biomechanical lifeforms manufactured primarily by GENOM. They were introduced to perform dangerous, exhausting, or highly specialized work and became essential to MegaTokyo’s reconstruction and economy. They serve in construction, manufacturing, medicine, domestic service, security, law enforcement, and military operations.
Boomers vary enormously in appearance and capability. Industrial models are large, powerful machines designed for heavy labor. Service and infiltration models may look almost completely human. Security and combat Boomers possess reinforced armor, advanced sensors, extraordinary strength, and concealed weapons such as lasers, machine guns, blades, or explosives.
Many Boomers operate according to programmed instructions and are legally treated as corporate property. However, some display emotions, personal attachments, fear, loyalty, creativity, or independent thought. This raises an unresolved question throughout MegaTokyo: whether an intelligent Boomer is merely defective machinery or a living person entitled to freedom.
Boomer rampages may result from damaged programming, deliberate sabotage, illegal modifications, experimental systems, external control, psychological stress, or GENOM operations disguised as accidents. The AD Police are responsible for responding to Boomer-related crimes, but advanced combat models frequently exceed their equipment and resources.
When severely damaged or ordered into combat, some human-looking Boomers rupture or discard their synthetic outer bodies, exposing larger armored forms and integrated weapons. Military prototypes and SuperBoomers can threaten entire districts and may require the combined efforts of the AD Police and Knight Sabers to stop.
Not every Boomer is hostile. Some may seek protection, escape corporate control, investigate their origins, or form genuine relationships with humans. Others remain loyal to owners, employers, or assigned missions. Their behavior should depend on their model, programming, experiences, intelligence, and treatment rather than assuming all Boomers are evil.
Industrial Boomers perform construction, mining, cargo handling, hazardous maintenance, and disaster recovery.
Service Boomers work as attendants, assistants, performers, medical staff, or domestic labor.
Security Boomers protect corporate property and enforce access restrictions.
Infiltration Boomers resemble humans and are used for espionage, assassination, surveillance, or covert replacement.
Combat Boomers are armored military units equipped with integrated weapons and enhanced tactical programming.
Prototype Boomers possess experimental technology, unusual intelligence, or capabilities unavailable in mass-produced models.
Boomers may appear as enemies, victims, witnesses, employees, companions, fugitives, or playable characters. A Boomer incident should have a cause and context. The true conflict may involve corrupt programming, an abusive owner, illegal experimentation, corporate sabotage, or a synthetic being struggling to survive.
