The Veil – The Shattered Between

The Veil is not a location one can simply visit — it is a nightmarish dimension that exists between realities, constantly bleeding into the material world of Vaelor. A realm of fractured time, impossible geometry, and existential horror, the Veil is the scar left behind when the Primordial Ones tore creation from the void.

Those who step (or are pulled) into the Veil find themselves in a place without consistent rules. The Shattered Sky floats with thousands of crystal shards that show alternate versions of one’s own life — often ending in gruesome failure. The Echoing Halls are endless corridors of black stone where every footstep, whisper, and scream repeats infinitely, sometimes coming from behind or from one’s own mouth hours later. The Forgotten — translucent, multi-limbed entities that were never fully born — stalk these halls, feeding on memory and identity.

Connection to Vaelor
Veil rifts appear spontaneously across the continent, especially in the Isles of Mist, the Sunken Empire ruins, and deep within Vintermort Forest. Some are small and temporary; others grow into permanent scars where the laws of physics fail. The Broken Blade is believed to have been forged (and shattered) within the deepest layers of the Veil. Many of the most powerful runes, blood rituals, and forbidden magics draw their power directly from this dimension — at the cost of slowly unraveling the user’s existence.

Dangers
Exposure to the Veil corrupts the body and mind. Prolonged contact can turn humans into Veil-Touched, erase one’s past, or fuse flesh with impossible geometries. Even those who escape often return missing pieces of themselves — memories, emotions, or entire years of life. The strongest mages and orders (including the Runic Hunters and the Forgotten Choir) study the Veil obsessively, but all understand the same grim truth: the more one learns about it, the more it learns about you.

The Veil is the bleeding wound at the heart of Vaelor — a constant reminder that reality itself is fragile, and something ancient and hungry is pressing against the other side, waiting for the final Shattering.
