Far to the east, beyond the rotting beauty of Eldoria, stretches the Verdant Expanse — an endless, suffocating tropical nightmare of towering jungle, fetid swamps, and prehistoric horror. This is the oldest and most primal wound left by the Shattering: a region where the spilled blood of the Primordials never fully dried and instead birthed a living, ravenous ecosystem that consumes all who enter.
The canopy is so dense that the forest floor exists in perpetual twilight. Massive trees twist into impossible shapes, their roots forming natural cages and their vines dripping acidic sap. The air is thick with spores, toxins, and the constant buzzing of colossal insects.
Key Locations
The Emerald Canopy: A multi-layered death-jungle where entire civilizations could be hidden in the upper branches. Dinosaur-like beasts, giant arachnids, and carnivorous plants rule here.
The Temple of the Serpent God: A colossal ziggurat slowly sinking into the swamps, covered in living vines and guarded by Lizardfolk blood cults. Many believe several fragments of the Broken Blade were hidden within its depths.
The Poisoned Marshes: Vast toxic wetlands filled with glowing fungi, deadly gases, and half-submerged ruins. Tribes of Lizardfolk and Deepkin perform horrific sacrifices to awaken ancient serpent entities.
The Hollow Maw: A legendary sinkhole said to lead directly into primordial caverns beneath the continent.
Inhabitants and Dangers
The Expanse is home to savage Lizardfolk tribes, wild Beastmen, degenerate plant-human hybrids, and creatures that should not exist. Expeditions from Eldoria or southern ports rarely return; survivors speak of trees that drink blood, flowers that sing lullabies before devouring their prey, and ancient serpents that remember the time before the Shattering. The region is a constant source of exotic (and often cursed) poisons, monstrous Tamed Monsters, and forbidden magic that finds its way to Frostheim’s black markets.
