Carré is the proud, sprawling capital of the Kingdom of Valcarré—a fortified Limestone city that embodies chivalric tradition, endurance, and rigid social order. Encircled by immense limestone walls reinforced with watchtowers and towering gates, Carré has never fallen to siege, a fact its citizens recite with pride.
The city spreads outward from an open central square called "The Lions March" in dense districts of two- and three-story stone buildings topped with red and ochre clay-tile roofs. Narrow streets wind between taverns, Inns, bakeries, armories, and crowded tenements, while banners bearing noble heraldry hang from balconies and parapets. Bells and horns regulate daily life, from market hours to curfews.
On the western edge of the city, the limestone walls connect directly to a raised stone bridge that spans a deep ravine, connecting Carré to the royal citadel "Château Valcarré" beyond.
The Town is patrolled by guards of the Inner Watch.
House Briseval is a modest but respected knightly house tasked with patrolling Carre’s inner districts and maintaining order during festivals, tournaments, and times of unrest. The Lysanthe Arcanum is the premier institution of magical study within @Carré the capital of the @The Kingdom of Valcarré. Founded under royal charter generations ago, the academy exists to educate, regulate, and quietly monitor arcane practitioners within the realm. While not as politically powerful as the @The Order of Tempus or noble houses, the Arcanum serves as the kingdom’s primary safeguard against untrained or dangerous magic.
The academy accepts students of noble and common birth alike, though sponsorship or recommendation is often required. Instruction emphasizes discipline, restraint, and service to the realm rather than raw power. Graduates are expected to either enter sanctioned service—royal bureaucracy, military support, civic wards—or to register as licensed practitioners within Valcerre.
The Arcanum is governed by a council of Masters, each overseeing a specific discipline of magic. The Conclave elects a High Provost every seven years, who acts as both academic leader and liaison to the Crown. While officially neutral in succession politics, the academy is quietly courted by every major noble house.
Current High Provost: @Celestine
Security & Oversight:
Permanent abjuration wards protect the building
Bound constructs patrol restricted levels
Faculty mages are authorized to detain rogue casters
Respected, cautious, and quietly powerful. The Arcanum is seen as a necessary institution—trusted by the Crown, and carefully observed by noble houses who understand that magic, like armies, can tip the balance of power.
The Order of Tempus is an order of knights who worship the god Tempus. Centred at the Basilica of the Bloody Standard, The Order of Tempus cares not for cause—only courage and skill. Just the same as the god they worship, this knightly order despises cowardice and treachery in battle but does not condemn war itself. They are the loyal protectors of the Kingdom of Valcarre. Many of Valcarre's noble houses send their second son's and daughters to the order of tempus once they come of age if they have shown any promise as a future knight.
