When the Qunari arrived in Thedas from the north, Par Vollen was the first land they conquered and converted to the Qun. Through ages of war, Par Vollen has remained a steady pillar of Qunari society, held firm by the Qunari even when their attempts to conquer the rest of The as fell apart under heavy resistance.
Par Vollen is peaceful, it's native humans largely willing converts to the Qun. The Qunari consider Par Vollen to be their new homeland.
Long before the arrival of the Qunari, the human inhabitants of Par Vollen built great pyramids in the islands abundant jungles. Their culture developed in isolation from mainland peoples. However that old culture has largely been forgotten after generations under the ridgid law of the Qun. While the pyramids of the original society were impressive, the marvels have since been outdone by great domes and aqueducts of the Qunari which is the only city of real importance in the island and easily rival the great Thedosian cities like Cumberland in Navarra, Val Royeaux in Orlais, and Minrathous in Tevinter.
