Dal Quor – The Region of Dreams

Dal Quor is not merely a distant realm—it is the mirror of mortal consciousness, a plane shaped by the dreams, fears, and desires of sentient beings. It is a place of surreal landscapes, impossible architecture, and ever-shifting reality, where the laws of physics bend to the will of thought and emotion. Every time a creature dreams, their mind touches Dal Quor, even if only briefly. It is the realm of sleep, of visions, of nightmares—and of profound metaphysical significance.

Unlike most other planes in Eberron, Dal Quor is currently severed from the Material Plane. Long ago, a cataclysmic event caused the plane to become perpetually remote, meaning it cannot be reached through conventional planar travel. This severance was not accidental—it was the result of a war between the mortal world and the native inhabitants of Dal Quor: the Quori, powerful dream-spirits who once sought to dominate Eberron.

The Quori are beings of thought and emotion, shaped by the collective unconscious of mortals. They are not uniform; their nature reflects the dominant psychic state of the plane itself. When Dal Quor was ruled by dreams of hope and peace, the Quori were benevolent. But as the dreaming minds of mortals grew darker, so too did the plane. The current cycle of Dal Quor is dominated by nightmares, and the Quori have become twisted, manipulative entities, bent on controlling the waking world.

This desire for control led to the Quori invasion of Eberron, thousands of years ago. Using their ability to possess mortal hosts, they sought to conquer the world. The war was devastating, but ultimately the mortal forces—led by the giants of Xen’drik—prevailed. In a final act of defiance, the giants used powerful magic to shift the orbit of Dal Quor, severing its direct connection to the Material Plane. Since then, the Quori have been unable to invade physically, but they have not been idle.

Instead, they turned to subtle manipulation, founding the Inspired, a ruling caste in the distant empire of Riedra on the continent of Sarlona. The Inspired are mortal vessels, bred to be perfect hosts for Quori spirits. Through them, the Quori exert political and psychic control over Riedra, spreading their influence through propaganda, psionics, and dream manipulation. The Dreaming Dark, a secretive faction of Quori, works behind the scenes to destabilize other nations and prepare for a new age of conquest.

Dal Quor itself is a realm of fluid reality, where geography is shaped by thought. There are no fixed borders or cities in the conventional sense. Instead, the plane is divided into regions that reflect different aspects of dreaming. Some areas are serene and beautiful, filled with floating islands, glowing rivers, and eternal twilight. Others are terrifying, filled with monstrous manifestations of fear and trauma. The most stable region is Quor Tarai, the heart of the plane and the seat of the Quori's power. It is a vast metropolis of obsidian towers and psychic energy, where the Quori plot and govern.

For mortals, Dal Quor is both a danger and a mystery. Most people visit it only in their sleep, unaware of its true nature. But certain individuals—especially those with psionic talent or aberrant dragonmarks—can access it more consciously. Kalashtar, a race of humans bonded with benevolent Quori spirits, are intimately tied to Dal Quor. They are exiles from the plane, fighting a spiritual war against the Dreaming Dark. Their dreams are lucid, and they often receive visions or guidance from their Quori allies.

Dal Quor also plays a role in the Draconic Prophecy, and some believe that its current cycle of nightmares is not permanent. The plane is said to rotate through cycles, each reflecting a different dominant psychic state. The current nightmare cycle may one day give way to a new age of hope, reshaping the Quori and their influence. This idea is central to the Kalashtar's mission: to hasten the arrival of the next cycle and restore balance to the plane.
