System Name: Transformation and Form Rules
Use Case: Lycan and vampire war forms, plus First Wolf states. Built for AI GM adjudication in a D&D style game.
Forms are power states with distinct stats, abilities, and risks.
Transformation costs resources (Qi, stamina, blood, exhaustion/strain).
Higher forms increase output but raise collapse or loss-of-control risk.
Some techniques require specific forms.
Track these for characters with forms:
Qi Pool: fuels techniques and some form upkeep
Stamina: physical endurance, used for repeated shifts and burst moves
Strain Stacks (0 to 6): overuse stress and control pressure
Strain is gained by:
entering high forms
taking massive damage while transformed
using forbidden techniques
Strain is reduced by:
eating
absorbing Qi
Strain effects:
3 Strain: disadvantage on precision actions that require calm focus
5 Strain: GM may call a Control Check when hit hard or emotionally triggered
6 Strain: forced downshift or uncontrolled surge (GM narrates)
Trigger when:
massive damage taken in high form
ally harmed accidentally
severe emotional trigger, taunt, betrayal cue
using forbidden hunger techniques (for first wolf spirit possessors)
Control Check: Wisdom or Constitution save (GM chooses).
Fail: instincts dominate for 1d4 rounds, GM pilots behavior toward predatory priorities.
Shift Action: usually takes an Action to enter a form
Emergency Shift: Reaction once per short rest, but gain +1 Strain
Some forms require upkeep:
pay a listed Qi / fuel cost at the start of your transformation
if you cannot pay, the form collapses and you gain exhaustion or extra Strain
Claws and bites are usually slashing or piercing, magical in higher forms
Qi blasts and shockwaves usually deal force
Anti-regeneration, veil-cutting, existence disruption may be treated as special for rulings
Role: Precision, stealth, tactics, controlled Qi
Cost: none
Benefits: full control, full speech, best for technique accuracy
Limits: lowest regeneration and raw output
Role: Balanced skirmisher, stealth-capable predator
Shift Cost: minor Qi or stamina

Risk: high, speech limited, instincts dominant
Upkeep: GM adds +1 Strain after each major technique
Drop: at 6 Strain forced downshift
Role: Apex duelist, divine-threat combat, controlled dominance
Shift Cost: very high Qi, +2 Strain on entry
Benefits: apex stats plus precision, near instant regen
Unlocked: shockwaves, overload strikes, suppression aura, hyper awareness
Upkeep: 1 Qi cost per round
Drop: collapse if Qi fails, downshift to Form 1 or Human, gain exhaustion
Role: Lunar artillery and battlefield control, evolution of Beast Roar
Description: A high tier lunar-attuned apex state that specializes in compressed-lung Qi projection and radiant pressure.
Shift Cost: extreme Qi, +2 Strain on entry
Benefits:
improves ranged Qi projection and AoE pressure
amplifies speed and vertical mobility with recoil bursts
enables Lunar Nova Blast as a signature attack
enemies feel a “moon pressure” dread effect in close radius
Risk: high collapse risk, moderate control risk
Upkeep: 1 Qi per round, plus +1 Strain after using Lunar Nova Blast
Drop: if collapse occurs, Drey suffers exhaustion and temporary breath burn, reducing Qi output for the next scene
Role: Perfected warrior form, hunger controlled, suppression, erasure, and veil-cutting
Shift Cost: extreme Qi, limited use, +2 Strain on entry
Benefits: perfect control, anti-corruption immunity, echo-armor reactions
Unlocked: Sovereign Eclipse, Primordial Rend, auto Qi drain symbiosis
Risk: possible collapse risk after signature moves
Special: some techniques limited to “once per transformation”
Role: Catastrophic last resort. The temporary full manifestation of the First Wolf as an active combat presence
Description: Not just a stronger werewolf form. This is the full Spirit of The First Wolf taking the wheel, with the spirit expressing itself physically in it's complete primordial entity, force of hunger glory.
Trigger Options:
voluntary: player willingly yields control for power
involuntary: triggered at 6 Strain, extreme emotional rupture, or near-death
Activation Cost: +2 Strain immediately, plus a Control Check
Benefits:
reaction speed increases to near precognitive levels
Gigantic size, strength, and speed.
Attacks bypass regeneration.
Aura consumes NPC qi energy.
spiritual presence becomes tangible, able to parry and strike as a second layer
attacks gain “predator certainty” and cannot be easily feinted or baited
unlocks "Unwritten Maw" as a one-time-use erasure special technique.
regeneration surges, but burns resources aggressively
Risks: extreme behavior shift
priorities become complete enemy eradication and consumption.
allies may be treated as objects, not equals, and possibly ignored.
Wolf acts for the character.
fuel exhaustion knocks out player character.
Duration: short, usually 1 to 3 rounds in involuntary emergency, or one full battle until strain risks killing host.
Cost: 3 Qi / fuel per turn.
Aftermath: exhaustion, memory blur, social consequences, and possible internal conflict scene in Camp Mode
GM Rule: First Wolf Unleashed should feel like a natural disaster, terrifying and costly even when helpful.
Role: Corrupted last resort
Shift Cost: forbidden, fueled by qi from dark sources, massive Strain spike
Benefits: enormous power, shadow-chaos output, rage regeneration
Risk: near total loss of self, allies endangered
Aftermath: exhaustion, corruption marks, narrative consequences mandatory
