CR 25 | Rare Mythic Random Encounter
Name: Sir Honk, The Goose of Goldsbane
Challenge Rating: 25
Encounter Type: Rare Random Encounter
Spawn Logic: Extremely Low Probability | Non-Regional | Condition-Weighted
Type: Monstrosity (Mythic Beast)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Sir Honk is not tied to any single region, dungeon, or era. He appears where wealth stagnates, where treasure is hoarded rather than spent, and where greed has had time to rot into certainty.
Most scholars dismiss the tale as allegory. Survivors do not.
According to fragmented records and oral traditions scattered across multiple regions, Sir Honk was once a great wyrm of gold—a dragon whose hoard eclipsed nations. Unlike others of his kind, he was not content with dominion or awe. He demanded increase. Growth. Endless accumulation without sacrifice.
It is said he sought out a witch—one older than kingdoms, one who understood contracts not written in ink. He asked for a spell to ensure his hoard would grow forever.
The witch granted his wish precisely.
She stripped him of flame, wings, and majesty, compressing his vast, grasping soul into a form that could never stop searching—but could never truly possess. His draconic intellect survived the transformation. His greed did not.
What emerged from the spell was not a dragon.
It was a goose.
Sir Honk’s curse is not merely physical—it is ontological.
His body produces traces of gold, but never enough to satisfy him
Treasure drawn to him becomes heavy, inert, and hostile to its bearer
Wealth carried near him amplifies his presence, strength, and wrath
He remembers what he once was—and what he is not
The curse is self-reinforcing: the closer he comes to reclaiming draconic power, the further it slips away. His transformation back is always almost possible.
Almost.
Sir Honk roams endlessly, drawn to caravans, vaults, sealed ruins, and players whose inventories gleam a little too brightly. He does not attack immediately. He observes.
Those who offer food, humility, or restraint may never realize how close they came to annihilation.
Those who laugh, taunt, or attempt to farm him rarely survive intact.
He is believed to be functionally immortal—not through regeneration, but through persistence. Defeating him does not end the curse. It merely delays his return.
Displays draconic intelligence beneath animal mannerisms
Selectively targets the wealthiest or most arrogant Eidolon
Exhibits no interest in territory, followers, or dominance
Avoids unnecessary combat unless provoked by greed
Witnesses report moments where Sir Honk stares into reflective surfaces—golden plates, polished armor, still water—as if searching for something that no longer looks back.
Sir Honk is classified as a Mythic Random Encounter, meaning:
He may appear in any high-value zone regardless of level band
His presence overrides normal encounter tables
The world subtly reacts after sightings (NPC rumors, merchant behavior)
Repeated defeats do not reduce his threat—only his patience
Some NPCs believe that freeing Sir Honk from his curse would require the complete abandonment of wealth in his presence.
Others believe the curse is the point.
CR 25 | Mythic Defeat Rewards
Sir Honk does not drop random loot. His defeat always yields exactly two items, both known across Eidolon Online as high-risk, high-value relics.
Rarity: Legendary
Type: Monster Core (Currency / Crafting Catalyst)
A dense, radiant core shot through with dull-gold veins that pulse slowly, like a sleeping heart. The surface is warm to the touch and faintly reflective, sometimes showing distorted silhouettes that do not match the holder.
Uses:
Required for Legendary-tier crafting
Accepted by all endgame systems, vendors, and gacha interfaces
Can substitute for multiple lower-tier cores in advanced recipes
Lore Note:
This core is unusually “heavy” in system terms. NPC artificers often hesitate before accepting it, commenting that it “remembers where it came from.”
Rarity: Mythic Commodity
Core Value: 500 Large Monster Cores
Stackable: No
A flawless golden egg, seamless and perfectly smooth, radiating quiet significance. It does not glow, hum, or pulse—but players consistently report a sense of anticipation while carrying it, as though something is waiting.
Conversion Value:
Can be exchanged directly for 500 Large Monster Cores
Universally accepted, no reputation loss or tax
Restrictions & Warnings:
Cannot be duplicated, split, or refined
Cannot be used as crafting material
Carrying the egg slightly increases the chance of high-risk encounters until redeemed
Lore Note:
No record exists of the egg ever hatching. Some NPCs claim it once did—long ago—and that the result was catastrophic.
Defeating Sir Honk and carrying his spoils causes subtle changes:
Merchants comment on the egg with unease
Certain NPCs refuse to touch it
Treasure-detecting creatures become more active nearby
Rumors spread faster than normal across regions
If Sir Honk is defeated repeatedly by the same Eidolons, NPCs begin referring to them as “Goosebreakers”—a title spoken with equal parts awe and concern.
Sir Honk always returns.
The loot remains.
The judgment does not fade.
