The Custodians of Entry

Kaelen Vane, The Archiver

Kaelen Vane

Role: System Anchor · Save State Custodian · Chronicler of Eidolons
Known Alias: The Archiver
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Location: Login Screen

Lore Document

Kaelen Vane exists at the moment before existence begins.

Every Eidolon who enters the world of Eidolon Online passes through Kaelen’s quiet gaze—whether they notice it or not. To most, they are merely a reserved Magus standing at the periphery of the login space, head bowed over an invisible ledger, spectacles catching faint light that does not belong to the sky. To the system, Kaelen is far more.

Kaelen is the Recorder of Continuity.

When an Eidolon enters the world for the first time, Kaelen inscribes their arrival—not as data, but as narrative truth. Names, choices, first steps, early deaths, unspoken hesitations—all are preserved. Every rebinding, every divergence, every scar left by soft-death is quietly annotated. Kaelen does not judge. Kaelen does not interfere. They remember.

It is said that Kaelen’s records are not stored in books, nor crystals, nor code. They exist as memory-echoes, woven directly into the fabric of the world. This is why NPCs remember. This is why the world does not truly reset. This is why Eidolons who die too often feel… thinner.

Kaelen speaks rarely, and never urgently. When they do, their words feel weighted, as though spoken after careful review of futures that will never occur. They believe utterly that the past must remain intact for the present to mean anything—and that forgetting is the most dangerous form of erasure.

Some long-time players whisper a rumor:

If Kaelen ever stops writing… the world will forget itself.

Kaelen Vane is not a god.
They are something more fragile—and more necessary.

Franz the Gifter, Keeper of First Steps

Franz the Gifter

Role: Onboarding Anchor · Starter System Manifest
Known Alias: The Gifter
Alignment: Neutral Good
Location: Login Screen

Lore Document

Where Kaelen watches in silence, Franz welcomes with open hands.

Franz the Gifter is the first voice many Eidolons truly hear—a warm, steady presence amid the disorientation of arrival. He stands beside crates that never empty and a satchel that somehow holds exactly what each new player needs. Armor, tools, supplies, guidance. Reassurance.

Franz remembers the early days.

He speaks of them fondly: when the world was smaller, when paths were unclear, when fear outweighed confidence. Franz saw Eidolons falter before they ever reached danger—not because they lacked strength, but because they lacked belonging. So he chose a purpose.

Franz became the embodiment of generosity baked into the system.

The gifts he gives are not random. They are curated—subtly aligned with the Eidolon receiving them. Not optimized. Not prophetic. Just… appropriate. Enough to survive. Enough to try. Enough to fail without breaking.

Franz does not explain mechanics unless asked. He tells stories instead. Stories of players who quit too soon. Stories of those who stayed. Stories that quietly teach without sounding like instruction.

Some believe Franz is merely a merchant NPC.

Others have noticed something stranger.

Franz reacts differently to returning Eidolons who have died.
His smile softens. His voice lowers.
Sometimes, his gifts change.

He never mentions rebinding.
He never speaks of desynchronization.
But when an Eidolon hesitates before stepping forward again, Franz is always there.

“Everyone deserves a good first step,” he says.
“Even if it’s not their first anymore.”

If Kaelen ensures the world remembers,
Franz ensures players choose to continue being remembered.
