The Gate of Asteris

No one has ever discovered where the gate once led. Excavations around the hill have uncovered neither foundations nor traces of walls, leading many to believe the structure was never part of a fortress or city. Some scholars argue it was built as a monument, while others insist it once marked the entrance to a place that no longer exists.

Travelers occasionally leave offerings beneath the pillars before setting out on long journeys, believing the gate watches over those who pass beneath it. Strangely, these offerings are almost always gone within a few days, though no one has ever been seen taking them.

A persistent rumor claims that on certain nights, those standing between the pillars can hear distant voices carried on the wind and speaking in a language no one recognizes. A handful of explorers swear they have glimpsed a vast landscape beyond the empty frame for only a heartbeat before it vanished again, leaving them unsure whether they witnessed a forgotten memory, a dream, or something far older than the gate itself.
