1. Nature and Layout of the Realm
An Interdimensional Afterlife Hub: The Land of the Dead exists as a distinct plane separate from the physical living world. It functions as a sprawling, bone-littered wasteland serving as a primary transit station and waiting room for newly departed souls before they are processed and assigned to their respective permanent afterlife tiers (the various Dead Worlds).
Geography and Hazards: The landscape is a desolate expanse strewn with the wreckage of ancient history—including abandoned cars, flying saucers, and endless fields of skeletal remains.
The River of Forgetfulness: A mystical river flows directly through the heart of the domain. Any soul or living visitor who drinks from its waters instantly suffers total memory erasure, stripping away their past identity.
Inhabitants: The realm is densely populated by ravenous skeleton-people who endlessly crave the sensation of flesh, alongside bizarre monsters, gate guardians, and swarms of dust-mite entities.
2. Access and Thresholds
The Interdimensional Threshold: While souls arrive automatically upon death, living beings can artificially bridge the gap into the Land of the Dead. By staring intently at a physical corner where two architectural walls meet and intentionally crossing their eyes, a mortal can tear open a portal directly into the underworld.
3. The Reign of Death
The Sovereign of the Underworld: For ages, the realm has been ruled by Death, an ancient, cosmic entity with a skeletal appearance who governs the processing of souls, maintaining the balance of mortality, and resides within a brilliant castle built entirely of light.
The Rules of the Court: Death's domain within the castle features a tranquil zen garden and an arena where visitors who dared enter the underworld could challenge the ruler through musical contests or magical bargains to retrieve lost souls.
