@Demon Hunter
The Birth of the Hunt
When the Abyssal Veils first rent open—cataclysmic fissures spewing legions of demons from the Burning Abyss into the mortal weave—the world teetered on oblivion. Empires fell to sulfurous hordes, skies wept acid, and the veil of reality frayed like scorched parchment. From this inferno emerged the Demon Hunters: not anointed heroes or divine champions, but scarred survivors who turned the fiends' own venom against them. The first was Zarael the Veinbreaker, a forsaken gladiator who, impaled on a balor's spear during the Siege of Thornveil, drank deep of its spilled ichor. The fel fire remade him—veins aglow, senses attuned to infernal whispers. Rising, he carved through the horde with a spine-forged glaive, birthing the creed: "Hunt the hunter, wield the wound, seal the scar."
The Rite of Corruption
Aspiring Demon Hunters undergo the Rite of the Veinscar, a gauntlet of self-annihilation in abyssal crucibles. Bound amid summoned imps and lesser fiends, they siphon Corruption—the raw, volatile essence of the Abyss—directly into their blood. This grants spectral prowess but exacts a toll: unchecked, it consumes the soul. Survivors gain Hunter's Mark, an instinctive brand that scents fiends across planes; Demonology Lore to unravel their hierarchies; and Abyssal Resistance to fire, cold, or lightning—their flesh tempered by the very hells they purge.
The Path of Reckoning
Demon Hunters are nomadic eradicators, their lives a perpetual stalk through corrupted wilds, warlock dens, and rift-torn battlefields. They master Fighting Styles honed for the hunt—dueling glaives for precision strikes, archery for distant culls. Extra Attack flows from relentless fury, Demon Slayer's Prowess exploits fiendish frailties, and Banishing Smite rends targets with force that hurls them back to the Abyss. At higher echelons, Relentless Hunter chains marks without respite, Fiend's Bane amplifies critical purges, and Aura of Purity shields allies from taint. Capstone Ultimate Banishment shatters fiends utterly, denying resurrection save by wish.
Corruption fuels their apex: spent points unleash Demon Hunter's Fury, accelerating strikes or cursing foes, but risk self-consumption—overdraw, and the hunter becomes the hunted.
Philosophy & Shadowed Burden
"We are the blade that tastes its edge," Hunters intone. Their oath rejects compromise: demons are excision, not redemption. Improved Abyssal Resistance and Greater Banishing Smite deepen their defiance, while Aura of Purity sanctifies battlegrounds. Yet Corruption mirrors the Abyss—Relentless Hunter tempts endless pursuit, birthing paranoia and isolation. Many fall to "Veinburn," mutating into the fiends they slay. Hunters form loose Vigils, allying warily with mortals but vanishing at dawn, their Demonology Lore revealing cults before they bloom.
Legends of the Hunt
Zarael the Veinbreaker: Sealed the First Veil; his glaive, Ichorfang, chooses new wielders.
Kragthar Soulrend: Orcish exile who purged the Blighted Marches, his Corruption-fueled rage birthed the "Fury Metamorph."
Elyndra Sightless: Elven seer whose fel-eyes foresaw the Returning Breach, now wandering oracle.
The Endless Vigil
As rifts stir anew—the Echoes of the Schism heralding abyssal resurgence—Demon Hunters prowl unseen. From fetid undercities to celestial frontiers, they track warlocks, shatter altars, and banish lords. Their arrival heralds salvation laced with dread: a Hunter means infestation festers deep. In the dance of mark and smite, they stand unyielding—reckoning incarnate, until the Abyss cowers silent.
