Blackhat is the largest and most powerful city in Eyr. Built around the roots of an enormous ancient black oak, it serves as the seat of the Witch Mother's power. High black stone walls surround the city, while banners bearing her sigil hang from every tower. Zealots, necromancers, witches, warriors, merchants, and spies fill its crowded streets.
Districts include:
The Black Citadel – The Witch Mother's fortress and seat of government.
The Bone Market – A bustling bazaar where legal and forbidden goods are traded.
The Hollow District – Home to necromancers, alchemists, and dark scholars.
The Zealot Quarter – Barracks, temples, and training grounds for the Witch Mother's followers.
The Root Warrens – The oldest part of the city, built among the massive roots of the Black Oak.
The Gallows Square – Public executions, speeches, and festivals honoring the Witch Mother.
Blackhat is a city of roughly 25,000–30,000 inhabitants, making it the only true city in Eyr. Every other settlement is a village, hamlet, or fortified town. Most roads eventually lead to Blackhat, whether for trade, justice, or fear.
The city's motto is carved above its main gate:
"Through Shadow, We Endure."
This perfectly reflects the Witch Mother's belief that only strength, order, and sacrifice can preserve Eyr.
