The Concealed Realm of Aetherion

The Concealed Realm of Aetherion

The Hidden Kingdom of Eternal Magic

"Only those whom the forest accepts may ever find Aetherion." — Deep Elf Proverb

Overview

Hidden deep within the Emerald Expanse, concealed by ancient magic older than kingdoms, lies the Concealed Realm of Aetherion, the homeland of the Deep Elves and the greatest center of arcane knowledge in Eyr.

The realm exists behind a magical veil known as The Emerald Veil, an enchantment created by the First Civilization over four thousand years ago. To ordinary travelers, the entrance appears to be nothing more than an untouched forest. Those without permission simply walk in circles until they unknowingly leave the area.

Only the Deep Elves, the Emerald Wardens, Thistle, and a handful of trusted allies know the true paths.

The Founding of Aetherion

When the First Civilization realized that the First Darkness could never truly be destroyed, they created hidden sanctuaries across Eyr to preserve their knowledge should their empire fall.

The greatest of these sanctuaries became Aetherion.

A group of powerful mages chose to abandon the crumbling empire and dedicate themselves to protecting magical knowledge rather than political power. Over centuries, these mages became the ancestors of the Deep Elves, transforming Aetherion into a city where magic and nature existed in perfect harmony.

When the First Civilization vanished, Aetherion remained hidden.

Waiting.

Watching.

Remembering.

The Emerald Veil

The Emerald Veil is more than an illusion.

It is a living spell connected directly to the World Oak.

The forest itself decides who may enter.

Those with greed, hatred, or corruption in their hearts become hopelessly lost.

Those who seek wisdom or peace often discover hidden paths they never noticed before.

Some travelers have wandered the Emerald Expanse for weeks without ever realizing they walked directly past Aetherion's gates.

A City of Living Magic

Everything within Aetherion is enchanted.

Crystal towers gather sunlight to power magical wards.

Floating bridges cross glowing rivers.

Trees reshape themselves into homes.

Gardens bloom in every season.

Books organize themselves.

Statues quietly walk the streets at night, repairing damage before sunrise.

Nothing here exists without purpose.

Magic serves the people—not the other way around.

The High Council of Nine

Aetherion is governed by nine Archmages known collectively as The High Council.

Each protects one aspect of the realm.

  • Keeper of Arcane Knowledge

  • Keeper of Nature

  • Keeper of History

  • Keeper of Diplomacy

  • Keeper of Enchantment

  • Keeper of Healing

  • Keeper of Artifice

  • Keeper of the Stars

  • Keeper of Ancient Secrets

No single ruler commands Aetherion.

Every major decision requires unity.

The Great Library

At the center of the city stands the Library of Eternal Echoes, containing books older than any kingdom in Eyr.

Here are preserved:

  • The complete history of the First Civilization.

  • Maps of forgotten lands.

  • Every known magical language.

  • Records describing the creation of the Four Great Seals.

  • The true history of the Demon Amulet.

Many books are alive, choosing who may read them.

Some refuse to open.

Others rewrite themselves depending on the reader.

The Arcane Heart

Beneath Aetherion rests the Arcane Heart, an immense crystal created by the First Civilization.

It regulates the magical currents flowing throughout Eyr.

Every spell cast anywhere in the realm subtly draws upon its power.

If the Arcane Heart were corrupted, magic itself would become unstable.

Spells could fail.

Portals could tear open.

Entire regions might become saturated with uncontrolled arcane energy.

The High Council has guarded it for millennia.

Relations with the Four Sisters

The Deep Elves respect Thistle, whose devotion to nature mirrors their own.

They admire Vesper's wisdom and diplomacy, though they remain cautious of her gift for persuasion.

They consider Nyx one of the greatest living mages, yet fear her relentless pursuit of forbidden knowledge. Several of her most dangerous discoveries originated in Aetherion before she was forbidden from entering its deepest vaults.

The Witch Mother is regarded as the greatest threat to the balance of Eyr. The High Council believes her search for the Demon Amulet could undo everything the First Civilization sacrificed to preserve.

The Hidden Secret

The greatest secret of Aetherion is known only to the High Council and Thistle.

The realm was never intended to survive forever.

If the Four Great Seals fail and the First Darkness returns, the Arcane Heart can be shattered in a final act of sacrifice. Its destruction would release enough magical energy to weave a new prison around the First Darkness—but at a terrible cost.

Aetherion would be destroyed.

The Emerald Veil would collapse.

The Deep Elves would lose their home.

It is a sacrifice the Council hopes will never be necessary.

For thousands of years they have watched over Eyr in silence, preserving ancient knowledge and guarding the balance of magic.

They know a truth that few others do:

The greatest power in the world is not found in spells or relics.

It is found in those willing to give everything so that others may live.
