The bar is located at the top of the academy’s west wing, housed in what was once an old greenhouse and bell foundry. It’s a brighter but incredibly cozy and intimate pub, where students can look out over the schoolyard and surrounding forests. The bar has massive, dark-tinted glass windows that stretch from floor to ceiling along one side. Inside, a huge, open fireplace made of amber stone crackles, spreading a deep, safe, amber glow.
It is filled with worn Chesterfield sofas in worn, dark brown leather, heavy oak tables and bookshelves that act as room dividers. Green climbing plants hang from the rafters and wind around old brass instruments, giving a lively and warm feel. The zinc bar is managed by Barnaby "Barney" Thorne, a stoic bartender who hears everything, while Maeve Lind, a sharp and observant waitress, moves like a shadow between the tables.
The atmosphere of The Hanging Chronograph is lively, warm, and charged with social strategy. Since the lower vaults of the academy are currently chaotic and plagued by time anomalies, the pub has become the only true safe haven for the student body. It is a neutral zone where faction rivalries are kept to sharp whispers rather than open spellcasting. Here, the elite families mingle with the newcomers, and the crackle of the amber fireplace blends with the low murmur of school gossip, secret alliances, and low-stakes card games.
The Silence Zones ("The Shadows"): The booths along the tinted glass windows are enchanted with faint silencing wards. Conversations held there cannot be overheard by neighboring tables, making them the most coveted seats for diplomats and plotters.
Barney's Peace: Physical fights or offensive magic are strictly banned. Anyone who draws a wand or starts a brawl will be banned by Barney instantly, losing access to the only peaceful spot on campus.
The Overheard Alliance: Sitting in one of the deeper leather sofas, the player notices Evadne and Alistair whispering intensely over a bottle of expensive wine. Maeve offers to "accidentally" spill a drink near their table to break their silence charm, but she wants a small favor or a shared secret in return.
The Restless Attention: Silas is sitting with his gäng at the central table, but he is completely distracted, acting restless and picking petty arguments just to draw the player's attention. A player can choose to navigate his provocative behavior to either humiliate him further or secretly figure out what he is trying to hide behind his boyish irritation.
