The Barrier of the Mind & the Ears of the Forest

Description

The Fey Realm is a place where the wilderness is alive, the trees whisper, and magic constantly eavesdrops on those who wander its paths. It is said that the forest has both ears and memory. Despite the world being deeply magical and full of illusions and chronomancy, there is one absolute, cosmic, and ancient law of nature that no creature, mage, or deity can break: the total integrity of the mind.

The Cosmic Law of Nature

Inviolable Thoughts: A creature's inner monologues, hidden thoughts, and secret intentions are completely protected by the deepest magic of the Fey Realm. Nothing can read, hear, or force its way into another creature's mind to steal their thoughts.

The Shield of Free Will: The only way for anyone else to know what a character is thinking, planning, or feeling is if the character chooses to speak it out loud, act it out, consciously share it, or happen to have a spell cast upon them.

Echo of the Forest: This natural law arose at the creation of the world to protect mortals from the manipulative court magicians of the fey court. Without this barrier, no one could keep a secret in a world where even the shadows listen.

Current Rumors

  • It is whispered among the chronomancers of @The Amber Citadel that there is an ancient, forbidden ritual that seeks to break this natural law, and that a magician is secretly looking for a test subject.

  • A hermit in @The Emerald Whisper claims that the oldest trees in the forest can sense the emotional "temperature" of those who pass by, even if they cannot read their own minds - and that the forest reacts to whether someone harbors deep hatred or fear.
