The Healer’s Place is located under a large dome of brass and smoked glass, which fills the entire room with a warm, subdued, amber light that immediately gives a sense of calm. Along the gently curving stone walls are rows of comfortable beds with soft sheets woven from moss and spider silk.
The air is fresh but carries a strong, pleasant scent of dried lavender, boiling eucalyptus and the unmistakable, sweet scent of honeydew. Small bunches of healing fey herbs hang to dry everywhere, and on the brass tables, small glass bottles and stills simmer with luminous, colorful liquids. In the center of the room stands a heavy oak table filled with ancient medical books and amber hourglasses.
The atmosphere in here is a sanctuary. It doesn't matter how deep the hatred between two clans in the world, or how hard the students have fought in Ironhall, in the infirmary there is absolute truce. It is a place of deep empathy and down-to-earth care.
Here, young, injured students interact in a unique way. You can often see a proud warrior from The Vanguard sitting with a broken leg and reluctantly thanking a soft-spoken druid student from The Arcanum who offers them soothing tea. The healers who run the place have enormous emotional intelligence; they know exactly when a student is in pain, and when they are just faking illness to avoid a difficult exam in The old tales Library.
Since the academy is located in the Crossroads, the infirmary uses a unique combination of traditional healing and chronomancy:
The Chrono-Stitch: For serious injuries, such as deep sword cuts from training battles, the healers use a focused level of time magic. They simply rewind time locally on the student's skin by a few hours, causing the wound to close and disappear. It is extremely effective, but requires deep stillness and leaves a faint, tingling sensation of "time difference" in the body afterwards.
Herbal Medicine: For magical ailments - such as if a student accidentally ate a bad tooth fruit or was bitten by an angry pixie - rare plants grown in the academy's Greenhouse are used. The pride of the infirmary is a salve made from crushed amber and honeydew that draws out all forms of fey poison.
The Frozen Fever: A student from the tundra has been struck by a mysterious, magical fever that causes his body temperature to drop so low that his bed begins to be covered in frost. The healers are desperate - time magic is not working because the illness seems to come from within his own memories. Players must use their street smarts to figure out what he really did during his last visit to Avondale Forest, and find the right antidote before he freezes to death.
The Stolen Essence of Time: Someone has broken into the infirmary’s locked medicine cabinet and stolen three rare hourglasses filled with chronomantic healing sand. Without the sand, the healers are unable to save a guard who has been seriously injured while patrolling the Crossbridge. Traces of the theft show small, oily fingerprints, could it be that someone in The Post Chamber has been bribed, or do the clues lead all the way to the Grimvault?
